I'm not sure how it was portrayed in the movie, but in the book, the woman (played by Jennifer Connely) was a complete cunt. Sure, she had a spot of bad luck losing the house, but I had nothing but sympathy for the Iranian family. Not only was the story depressing, but it made me angry that she could harass them the way she did.

Casting Jennifer Connely was clever though because she's a complete precocius diva cunt in real life. Hating her is easy, although she did used to have nice pair of mammaries before turning bulemic and shrivelled up.

She is a cunt in the movie as well .. a subtle one ... but a cunt nonetheless. I had no sympathy for her almost all the way to the end of the film, but then I did.

This movie was surreal in the sense that none of the characters were really sympathetic, but you "understood" the reason for their actions and why it was "right for them" to act that way ... taken in that context.

I don't know, it was a good flowing story ...

BTW, Connelly still has those bodacious tatas .. and they are in partial view throughout the whole flick ... she is still delicious. Did anyone see Career Opportunities .. one of her early flicks? Mama mia !!!
 
She looked amazing in Career Opportunities. She also looked good in the Rocketeer, cute in Labyrinth, and of course she gets her glorious massive paps out in The Hot Spot.

I tend to prefer her earlier trashy roles. :D

Pretty interesting, very much an atmosphere film. Then again, any movie with Nowhere/Catastrophe playing during the ending credits gets my approval. :)
 
Just watched "Miller's Crossing" yesterday. What can I say... excellent movie, perfect scenerey, great acting, superb dialogue... a real coen.
 
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003

Better than I expected. Leatherface is awesome. Jessica Biel is a babe. More blood would have been nice. THey added a bunch of stuff on this one. You can definitely tell this was made for the teenies of today. It's just not as menacing as the original. Good, but totally unnecessary.
 
Man, I hated TCM remake so much. It's really weird though, because even elitist horror mags who were against this remake ended up liking it more than expected in their reviews, so I was hoping to have a same 'nicely surprised' reaction. I didn't.

I agree about Jessica Biel though - wow. Skimpy top and nice boob shots every so often (curiously placed at moments where I was ready to hit the 'stop' button).

I think Dawn of the Dead is the better remake 'that should not be'.

JK, what makes you say this? Jennifer Connely has never come across like that from what I know; she seems like such a sweetheart! As far as her being bulemic and shrivelled up, my friend, it's time to renew your eyeglass prescription. ;)
 
Damn! In reading that again, I guess I was a bit harsh, but here's what I know / have heard:

1 - The oscar acceptance speech. Puh-leeease!
2 - The newly affected accent in interviews. When did she become British?
3 - Like Demi Moore, she's one of those that demands the 'big' trailer
4 - For her EW cover photoshoot with Charlize Theron and Naomi Watts, she threw a hissie fit when they wanted Watts in the middle (Sarah Michelle Gellar did the same apparently for a Vanity Fair cover)
5 - Just the whole diva attitude

I guess she's just representative of her Hollywood peers. She's not bad looking I'll give you that - in fact, she is pretty - but she USED to be an absolute pin up babe. She lost all that puppy fat and is a bit too Ethiopian skinny for me now. She no longer looks like a closet slut.

Great gobs of golem shit, I can't believe how funny this fucking movie was! Plus Victoria Silverstedt is hot as poop, regardless of how weird her nipples might seem.

Funny as hell. Jack Black is awesome in it, and if those 10 year old kids are really playing those instruments, then DAMN!
 
2001: a space odyssey

haven't gotten round to seeing this one earlier for some reason, anyway i was stunned by the photo and the settings and found it really mencing at some points. the ending i think i'll have to consider some, i didn't really get the symbolics there hehe

Kicked ass. Very different for Kevin Smith, not as funny or cerebral as normal, but very good anyhow. But hold the fucking phone for one god damn second: $8.50 per ticket!? Fuck me no wonder I wait for DVD rentals!
