Movies

One of the most emotional moments in cinema history:

When bill and ted mistakingly go into the future and all their worshippers start doing air guitar while a slow dance power ballad plays in the background

Just got back from seeing Silent Hill!

Never played the game (<_< >_>) so fuck if I know anything about that, but I thought it wasn't too shabby. Nice effects, creepy atmosphere. Cool stuff!

Watched Howl's Moving Castle the other night and was kind of disappointed, the script felt pretty confused and sometimes even forced. Sure it wasn't bad but nowhere near Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke

same here. On the visual department it's as always stunning, but much too stereotypical storywise. I felt like the (huge) potential of the world and characters were merely brushstroked and left at that while the more formulaic elements kept plodding along towards a hollow ending (or forced, just as you put it).

wolf creek. i was highly disturbed by this movie, which means it is either a very effective horror movie or is in extremely bad taste. apparently it is based on true crime but with one witness who didnt really witness anything, i dont understand how the writer came up with the story. so he conjectured the whole thing and based it losely on the disappearance and supposed murder of two women?
this movie has somewhat turned me off of horror for awhile. theres simply no redeeming value in it whatsoever.

There are two types of horror: (i) the stuff with fantasy, like ghosts and zombies, and then (ii) the "realistic" stuff which is just exploitation.

I've always preferred (i) and know the genre pretty much inside out. It rules provided you're ok with the escapism (since most of it is euro-trash).

Re: Wolf Creek, I haven't seen it (and probably won't), but I imagine they based it on the murderer's confessions.

yeah, fantasy horror rules (ie dawn of the dead, halloween, even the umpteen jason movies) but "real" stuff makes me wonder if theres something wrong with me. stuff like devils rejects and wolf creek have absolutely no artistic merit or redeeming value (as in, say, a "moral to the story")

btw, the "murderer" was never found, nor were the bodies. the lone suspect was held for four months or something and released. he was one of the kids (obviously escaped the murderers grasp) and according to the movie, he wouldve known nothing about what happened to the other two girls. thusly, i dont understand where the writer got his information.

MUNICH ... liked the mood Spielberg captured, very Frankenheimer ... but this "all things Juden" topics he constantly chooses is getting a bit tiresome.

I also realized that Spielberg is one of the few directors that does not have a unique style in his flicks ... which in a way what makes him great ... but really there is nothing for someone to say ... "that must be a Spielberg movie"

he has been a bit annoying lately ... his last great one was Schindler's List IMHO ... although A:I had it's moments ...

The events in Wolf Creek happened pretty close to where I used to live, and if memory serves, there was a pretty bloody comprehensive investigation, and Joanne Lees has a pretty good memory of what happened, aside from the hours tied up in the bush trying to escape.

Murdoch was sentenced for Falconio's murder last year anyway, so it's a closed case now.
