Movies

Paris, Texas needs a nice big TV set ... preferably widescreen.
one of the most amazing movies visually.

I guess I need to see Paris, Texas sometime.. never have, although I'm a huge fan of the soundtrack.

last night I watched Dead Ringers

absolutely great, Cronenburg never disappoints (err, well.. don't get me started on existenz..)

and Irons' turns out a brilliant performance

the movie was surprising, I expected it to turn out more twisted and out of this world than it was......it stayed more grounded in normal reality than most, but with minor twists, which actually resulted in it being more intense than his more abstract films, imo.

just watched the japanese version of DARK WATER ... holding my head in disbelief at the sheer stupidity of it and why on earth it would be remade in the US ?!??!!

utter huddah ...

I want to see that one, I think Russell and JayK were getting gayboners left and right over it. US one has Jennifer Conolly, which reminds me that I have to go watch Mulhullalalddadnd Drive now, nice night cap to send me off to bed weirder than this just made me:

12 Monkeys

HOLY BALLS THAT RULED. I watched it years and years ago but didn't like it, think I was just some punk teenager with no concept of UNRULINESS yet or something. Probably Brad Pitt's best role, even beating out Mickey in Snatch. Well, maybe.

Mulholland Drive

Yep.
:worship:

One Point O - anyone??
Very very very good. Psychodelia is everywhere in this movie. Difficult to describe something more. But it really is 'a-must-see'!

neato, sounds like my kind of movie, I will rent it this week.

and as my dissapointment in DARK WATER lingers I read this article on CNN ... and it pretty muchexplains every cheese-fest Asian horror flick ...

http://us.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapcf/06/26/haunted.beaches.ap/index.html

A widely held superstition in Chinese societies holds that if bodies are not recovered and properly buried, the spirits restlessly wander the world. Some believe the lost souls try to drag living beings into their spiritual limbo land.

God help the people living around the WTC.

The Emperor's Club

Wow. I actually started glancing at this movie while browsing the web, and then was sucked in. Some might call this a poor man's Dead Poets Society. I thought TEC was much more powerful, and a true telling of what our current leaders (whether it be in gov't, finance, law, etc) believe in. This movie is more about disappointment than triumph. Kevin Kline, per usual, is brilliant. This movie is about being able to look back on your life and being happy with what you've done, and is told brilliantly. Also about facing guilt and past mistakes. In a way, it's about hope in a land of honor-lacking leaders.

Recommended.

The Life Aquatic... I thought it was fucking fantastic. 9/10, good film.

finally... I seem to remember the last time this movie came up around here, it received a severe bashing (or at least a little bit o' shit)

but this movie is so good, on so many levels. I just watched it again recently, and I'm thinking its better than Royal Tenenbaums (...gasp!)

the life aquatic =
a little bit o' shit

:loco: :tickled:

in all fairness, Murray's complete lack of faith in his sharks was fnny shit ... what killed it for me was the "look" of the film more than anything ... like that really bad theater like cutaway set of the submarine ...
Anderson is suffering from the Tarantino syndrome ... he cannot branch out and his stuff is geting tired and repetitive

Dudes The Life Aquatic is one of those rare absolutely perfect movies. The scenery the characters the script the acting the score the music the atmosphere the mood the everything. Way better than Royal Tenenneadndndnbutts.

PERFECT SCORE OMFG/10

I agree.. I've watched it again since last time and it has obtained The Official Marksveld Seal of Sexual Approval (aka the OMSSA). 10/10

Tenenbaums was dreadful, and I'm pretty sure Life Aquatic is as well, just like Lost in Translation was. Give me standard Hollywood schlock over third-rate indie films like these.
