New bands that will be classics in 15 years

Those are indeed adjectives, but they don't apply to Pink Floyd. I can see how you might find early works like Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, Saucerful of Secrets, or their film soundtracks to be "unfocused," but not after they found their sound on Meddle (and all of those early albums are excellent psychadelic/space rock). Post-Wish You Were Here releases suffered from either too much (Final Cut) or no (AMLOR, Division Bell) Waters, and are simply solid rather than awesome. But Animals, Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, and Wish You Were Here are all incredible, classic records.

Actually, in my opinion, they're better than ANY band, but I know a lot of people wouldn't agree with me on that. Pretty sure that no one can argue with the "cleans the floor with the metal genre" statement, though.
.

I prefer Yes or Tull for my prog rock tastes, along with Gentle Giant etc. PF's DSotM is great, and so is WYWH, but everything else is pretty average imo.

Those albums (especially WYWH) do have a "warmer" sound than much of the rest of their work, and I can understand why a lot of people prefer them, but Animals, Meddle, and The Wall are all fantastic IMHO

I like Atom Heart Mother and Saucerful quite a lot as well; soundtracks, Ummagumma, and Piper never quite did it for me. The later stuff is great, but it's not on the same level.

LOL what the fuck are you talking about? the production of 70s prog bands is great, I'd say much better than old school DM or 90% of thrash.

WTF???

no dude, i'm not comparing with metal genres, to be more precise, i'm not comparing with nothing... for example, Demons and Wizards is a great record, but could be better if had been produced in this days...

Think logically. Dont pick your favorite bands. Who honestly think in flames will be classic? I think Sigh will be classic if they are not over looked

I already think Sigh is classic. A modern classic sort of, but they are unique as hell.

In Flames

1) In Flames is hardly a new band as they have been together since the early 90's
2) The Jester Race or even Whoracle are already regarded as classics for their genre.
3) They band is currently a steaming pile of shit, whose glory days are long gone. All hope for a new "classic" album was flushed down the toilet years ago.

They may be classics but that doesn't mean that those adjectives DON'T apply to them on a person to person basis. As far as I'm concerned they're one of the most boring bands I've ever heard, rivalling Opeth (post-Orchid).

They deserve all the praise that can be thrown at them. Emotional, introspective, insightful, pioneering, talented, diverse... By far my favorite band of all time.

he said, "don't list favorites"

I do like Floyd, don't get me wrong, but the best? thats debatable.

I'm not a big fan of Pink Floyd, actually I'm hardly a fan at all, Meddle and Animals has it's moments, though everyone smart knows The Wall is garbage. The only reason why I even know the smallest bit of Pink Floyd is because one of my friends is a rabid fan of them. And yes, they are extremely over rated. Pink Floyd are like Metallica, everyone will always have a t-shirt of them because it's cool and they will be recognized.

Hehe, I like Opeth a hell of a lot, too. I don't see how you can find PoS more interesting than Floyd and Opeth... but eh, we clearly have very different tastes.

Yeah Ohio I was just trying to demonstrate that Symphony X is not the best band ever; I wasn't offering Floyd as candidates for the thread. They already are classic, and they aint metal. You're correct in saying that their status as "the best" is debatable, but they do happen to be my personal favorite.

Burning, The Wall may have been a popular release, but that doesn't make it garbage. Yeah, most t-shirt wearing fans probably couldn't tell Atom Heart Mother from a hole in the ground... but there are also people who actually know what they're talking about who love Floyd as well. They were a fantastic band, and even their mainstream hits are fucking incredible records. Not overrated in the least.

Seriously. Calling The Wall garbage is just ridiculous. Do you want tr00 kvlt creds or something...?

the wall is alright though inconsistent.

Funny you should mention that. Didja know that the song "Comfortably Numb" was actually a kinda compiled version stitched together out of a version Gilmour wrote and a version Waters wrote? Funny. Still a kickass song, though.
