New bands that will be classics in 15 years

incubus anybody?

:p

I dont think job for a cowboy will be classic, i think it just is people in awe because he can squeal like a pig, bark like a dog, and suck like a hooker on payday.

haha sigged.

No but I but there really has not been a CLASSIC RECORD released in metal that people have raved about on a vast scale. I mean when was the last time a "regin in blood" was realsed and people on message board and fan zines were raving?

They all ready are. Kataklysm are good but nothig near classic.

i dont think many new bands have a chance of becoming classic, there are too many bands trying to "bring back old sound". and wel all know how that usually turns out.

I can't wait for DT to be "classic," that's gonna be amusing

(and whether you like em or think they suck, you know they probably will be)

i think its sad how many people say they like some obviously shitty band (like slipknot, CoF, or CoB) and dont take time to listen to any other metal and jabber on about how some band that is beyond overrated is the fucking best, due to how many people there are like that a lot of shiity bands will be classic

However, a lot of "trendy" bands (Slipknot) probably won't outlast their decline in popularity. I say that DT will be "classic" because of the people who make up their fanbase(lots of musicians)... hell, they sorta already are, to some degree. Opeth will probably be getting listens in 15 years, too... and probably Porcupine Tree (if they count as "metal" at all), Nile, and Behemoth, to a slightly lesser degree.

Like the fucktards on Bodom forum who created a whole thread dedicated to "why is Opeth so popular...they are boring...I dont like heavy to clean and back to heavy...I dont like diverse bands"

classic doesn't mean 5 minute scale run shredding
DT will never be classic, because if they would ever be, it would have happened long ago. take a look at most of the classics that have already been in the metal industry, they achieved that rank in about 3-5 years? classics take originality and doing the best you can do both musically and compositionally, i don't count DT original at all except for maybe jordan rudess, and he's not all that great. feel free to argue this is my opinion.

"Classic" has to do with public opinion, not musical quality, and DTs earlier work has already achieved that status; I think that years after they dissolve, they will be recalled (at least in metal circles) as a classic band

Look at Slayer: their new shit is... yeah... but they'll almost certainly be remembered as classic on the strength of their old releases.

"Musically" (you divorce it from "compositionally," so what I assume you mean is skill/musicianship) DT kick the shit out of most modern bands in any genre; the only gripe most people have with them is the song writing or LaBrie's vocals. Petrucci and Portnoy are awesome

i would have to say opeth definitely. finntroll will probably become classic too. and kalmah has a better chance of being classic than CoB. kalmah actually kicks ass and doesnt appeal to teenage boppin ninja turtles. ha

evergrey
windir
behemoth

i think those are some bands that should become classics there is probably a lot more but its hard to tell what just came out and what is already classic. ha

While i absolutely agree with your whole general point, thus disagreeing with almost all bands mentioned in the thread, i have to inform you (as S<issors said) that the old D.T. albums are already considered to be classic. And J.R. is possibly the least original musician that ever passed from D.T. so if you say that he is the most original member of them, then obviously you haven't listened to their music enough.

i agree!!!

sonata arctica and eminem

I still think that pig squealing is just a "trendy" name for growling. People in the mainstream just don't realize what real growling is and thought of some lame name for something they had never heard before that had actually already been done.

If I'm wrong, please tell me why.
