New bands that will be classics in 15 years

I realize I'm being slightly unfair with my critism of Symphony X: I was mostly just getting pissy because somebody called me a "fucking fag" for disliking them a couple of posts back. They certainly aren't terrible. I just find them to be very mediocre. The vocals don't do it for me, and the insturmental shit just isn't as good as Dream Theater. But yeah, they aren't an awful band. I just hope they don't become "classic."

As for Dragonforce, I find that most SERIOUS METALHEADS hate them... and I think that those people are really missing the point. Metal is a fairly ridiculous genre; it's cool to have a band that realizes that and just fucks around. It's fast, goofy music, and it IS something of a joke. And I'm cool with that. I enjoy listening to it.

Also I believe I have seen them play their solos live... maybe I'm missing something...?

Pretty sure DT gets heavier than Symphony X, and they certainly play better... out of curiousity, what would you say SX's heaviest song is? I'm openminded, try to reverse my opinion.

EDIT: "One good EP?" Scenes and Awake were both excellent albums by anyone's standards, and IMO everything but FII (and possibly Octvarium...) was extremely solid.

Spastic Ink, Sigh, Amesoeurs (only released that EP, but I have a feeling about these guys), Nevermore (I haven't heard them referred to as "legends" yet, but they will eventually), !T.O.O.H.!, and many others. There are quite a bit of good bands coming around today in my opinion.

There is some talent in Dragonforce, but talent that takes itself as seriously as the band takes its image. I can listen to a Dragonforce song every now and then but the vocals get on my nerves.

Dream Theater has great instrumentation, but sometimes ( about 70 % of the time ) it gets ruined by something, either LaBrie, or 'complexity' that ends up being boring . ( You want good complexity listen to Spastic Ink or Spiral Architect)

I personally enjoy Symphony X most of the time, they are kind of prog - power with Panteralike riffs and Malmsteen ( with more variety ) solos.

I think Spastic Ink will be a classic band. Somewhere that they appreciate metal.

I seem to be the only one that enjoys Labrie's vocals. I don't know why, I have just always liked them.

Also, I feel I must put in my two cents about Dragonforce. They are talentless fake power metal wannabe trend creating hacks. Herman or Sam can't play to save their lives, not to mention they have really only written about 3 actual different songs. Everytime I hear classmate rave about them I give them an Edguy, Jag Panzer, and Stratovarious albums and tell them to throw away anything they have DF-related.

See the thing with Dream Theater's heaviness is that it isn't brought on by good riffs and what not it is just sort of a nu-metal heaviness. Symphony X's heaviest work is easily on their album Paradise Lost - I somehow managed to lose the leak of it but - ... it is still filled with awesome heavy riffs.

Just check that album out, if not Wicked has a pretty heavy riff through out.

And I find the song writing rediculously weak on Scenes, Awake, I&W, etc. Only A Change of Seasons does anything for me.

Power metal is power metal, no matter how you slice it.

Joking, dude.

The song writing on Scenes and Awake is quite strong IMO... they only lapsed into serious self indulgence later in their career. There is a definate progression of themes, repeated passages, etc throughout Scenes, and Awake's strong structure is (relatively) tight.

And yeah, I also enjoy LaBrie's vocals much of the time. I'm a big Pink Floyd fan, and LaBrie's "low creepy" singing occasionally reminds me of Waters. DT in general is a sort of heavy metal mutation of Floyd in many respects.

I'll check out Paradise Lost when it is released.

Power metal in general is goofy, and DF are entertainingly goofy; hence, I enjoy them.

but in the future, i hope Keep Of Kalessin will be classics...
ARMADA is such a perfect speedy BM album, cant wait for their next release....
