NEW BEHEMOTH

Yeah, the mix and guitar/drum tones are cool, and half of the tracks I like (2-4, 7, 8), but the others are just kinda boring death metal to me (though they have their moments)

Doesn't it say in the book who mastered it?>

Don't have it with me, unfortunately - I left it at my parents' house

Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH are tracking guitars for their as-yet-untitled new album with Woytek and Slawek Wieslawscy from Studio Hertz.

Commented Woytek: "Works are in progress, everything is going just smooth. We get along real fine and I believe we found a killer tone for each guitar."

Added Woytek's brother Slawek: "It's been five days of recordings and we nailed three songs already. We[are] lay[ing] down three rhythm guitars on each side, sometimes even more."

He continued, "We use Mesa Boogie Road King, Sammatone and Diezel Herbert. First two amps are used by BEHEMOTH live so we are bringing some of this live vibe to the record too. Diezel is there just to spice up the overall sound…"

BEHEMOTH mainman Adam "Nergal" Darski stated: "This is the most relaxing and at the same time most creative studio session I've ever been a part of. These guys are very effective and they work incredibly fast! Both are very anal bout details, so now my guitars for the first time ever don't sound sloppy, haha. We found some fresh-sounding guitar tones and mixed it up together… I'm using this new custom amp Sammatone that was built for me in U.S. and it sounds just amazing! I'm a longtime Mesa Boogie fan, so I'm using Road King as a main sound. We mix it with Diezel Herbert. I'm sure there's some new quality made here!"

Ace. Can't wait to hear. 6 guitars at once... sounds like Behemoth to me already.

3 songs after 5 days though? Maybe it's me, but my studio times tend to be a lot more limited than that. After 3 days I'd normally hope to have at least 6 songs done on guitar! I understand the 6 takes at once add to complications, but still...

Eek, I hope they didn't do the mastering though - that album clips more than any other I have! (except maybe for Hypocrisy's Virus)

Virus is actually amazing at how plain unlistenable it is. The album was totally wasted on that mastering job.

Oh and does anyone know if Behemoth generally plays live and records with the Oversized cabs?

Most definitely, at least on "The Apostasy" (check out the studio vid I posted earlier in the thread, not to mention the sound of it ;)). And interesting that the Mr. Hector and Uberschall aren't making it onto the album, but whatever, as long as the Mesa is I'm happy (of course, they'd have to be crazy for it not to :D) Three takes per side though, holy motherfuck...

Yeah figured that. I was nerding it up one day and tried to tell if it was an Oversize or not!

I'm a bit intrigued by the Sommatone amp now. I could probably check one out here in NJ.

Hertz bros and Nergal - I can definitely see the family resemblance :D

I got it from their myspace bulletin actually, but it was the same text as above, so probably just cut/pasted from Blabbermouth

Wow, quite an all-stars cast on the new one indeed... though I have to admit I don't think I've liked any of Colin's work that much. Just a personal preference thing. Still really open to be impressed by this one though... can't wait.

Colin Richardson will mix the album!

Seriously? Damn, that's unexpected, has he ever worked with a band as heavy as Behemoth before? Honestly, I gotta second Ermz, none of his stuff has blown me away that much (though all I've heard Heartwork and "The Fury of our Maker's Hand")

Dunno Marcus, the guitar tone alone on "Heartwork" is ridiculously heavy in my eyes. I think he will do a bang-up job!
