new Iced Earth EP

well I don't know. I've grown up in Metal listening to Pure Evil, Travel in Stygian and Dante's Inferno. This new Iced Earth is way too clean and stuff for me.

Oh, I don't ever expect that to come back, as much as I would love it. I'm just pleased he got back to a half decent sound.

I'll be grabbing the new albums for sure... as I now have high hopes.

Probably be disappointed, but oh well.

well, maybe if he'd use someone else then Jim Morris for the whole production process.... I never really liked his work anyway. Neil Kermon or the guy with Dimmu Borgir would give a much better sound to Iced Earth.

Anyway... my 2 cents.

everyone in this forum would fellate barlow if given the chance. jesus christ.

the reason Iced earth sucks isn't because of ripper. he sang for fucking judas priest. how many people could have filled halfords shoes?

the reason Iced earth sucked and will continue to suck is because John Schaffer cant write an original riff or melody. Every single song has the same triplet pattern, acoustic interlude, and overall unlasting appeal.

leave the fucking concept albums to arjen luccassen. he'll do it right.

This song is fucking KILLER. Rippers vocals can use some work, but fucking Schaefer did an excellent job on capturing the Something Wicked sound. I am fucking digging this song.

Are you kidding? The riff and song structures sound exactly the same.

Capturing the Something Wicked sound and feel shouldn't be too hard seeing as how he's done it so many goddamned times.

1. TOO TRUE. OMGZ.
2. He got a pass and fail in that gig. Even isn't bad, but not good.
3. I hate this. I've listened to a LOT of metal and Jon brings a speed and precision that you just don't fucking find. Granted, he's a triplet man. For this new song he at least kept it to the chorus and went for an old school tremolo-power chord thing. It fucking worked for this song, owen's voice and especially grabbing that trilogy feel. The chorus was far too Gettysburg trilogy, tho. It's important where this song is located in the album's tracklisting (and the tracks around it).
4. Aryeon is fairly gay.

The problem with Iced Earth has never been their riffs. They're always slightly different (yeah, VERY slightly), but Jon needs a rhythm master like BG have. The only reason people notice all the triplets is because he bridges music together often. THAT MEANS HE PLAYS THAT FUCKING MUCH. It wasn't evident in the new song, but in the old ones it's insanely precise and with the current production sounds bland.

Asmodoedsmdwe got it right on the fucking head though. They need a new producer. Iced Earth hasn't sounded awesome since HS. They got close in that Getty trilogy.

Weell, I just had me a listen and I'm quite impressed. I'm also a die-hard IE fangirl, so all this is taken with a grain of salt, right?

Ripper could have a little more umph behind his voice, but it's not that damned screeching like the Glorious Burden. So, I say high-five Schaffer and I excitedly await the rest of the album.

He's got a point. I don't really see why everyone's railing at Tim Owens when it was Jon Shaffer that made the Glorious Burden the piece of shyte that it was.
