new Iced Earth EP

all the EP does is make me listen to the older-better version. Barlow was one of hte few power metal singers I can tolerate. Owens just plain sucks. He sucks the life out of what was an epic trilogy of songs. This new version is terrible.

Whats with the bands going and rerecording classics. First queensryche then dimmu now this crap?? Where will it end? Swear to god If we get a heart collector revisited Im leaving the forum for good!

the reason Iced earth sucks isn't because of ripper. he sang for fucking judas priest. how many people could have filled halfords shoes?

I don't think he filled Halford's shoes at all. At least not well.

Yes, he's a decent singer, but I don't think his voice fits with Iced Earth today. And I think I would have liked The Glorious Burden a lot more with Matt at the helm.

I thought Ripper sounded incredible on the Gettysburg trilogy. A lot of range, power, and nowhere near as soulless as people make him out to be. I couldn't really see Barlow doing the last song of the trilogy.

To be truthful, I love the Gettysburg Trilogy, which has been said many times. But I, for one, would love to have had Barlow sing it.

I would like to have heard it too, just to see how it would sound. But I still don't think he would have fit in those songs.

Perhaps, having Barlow along with Schaffer doing the Longstreet/Lee thing may get confusing because they have similar vocals. At least, more similar than Schaffer and Ripper.

I don't know where I was going with that. I ate too much waffle and am not thinking correctly. :erk:

Agreed. The ambiance sounds a little better through the new version, but I can't stand the vocals. They don't match what my brain wants to hear.

Plus, for some reason, "The Coming Curse" sounds a lot more bland, like it's missing some background.... maybe it's just me.

The pretty cool Piano interludes/intro have been erased and replaced with some wonky guitar.

I enjoy the new song to a degree, but Owens butchered the shit out of the Something Wicked trilogy. And I mean butchered it. The music is also butchered, but good god... the vocals are bad.

The trilogy feels really generic and watered-down. I was especially disappointed with The Coming Curse.
