new Moonsorrow

Moonsorrow... I loved this band for a little while, bought all their cds, got bored, haven't listened in a year.

I should dust those off sometime. And fuck this anti-jollyfolk bullshit.

I personally can't really stand jollyfolk anymore (but atleast Moonsorrow is nothing close).

Some of the melodies on the earlier albums do come close to it, but they never scarifice the epicness in favor of the jollyfolk. As for the new one, I have my doubts whether they can keep me interested over a half hour, Viking metal is best served in relatively small doses (replay value anyways as I gravitate toward the bombastic side of it), but if they come up with something even more massive than Rauniolla or Jotunheim, bring it on...

I don't get all this "jollyfolk" hating. It's all the same shit in the end, some good some bad. I guess fair enough if some people need their music to be somber and morose all the time but its just so damn limiting.

Verisakeet got me into folk metal at the beginning of 2005 and I was burned out on the genre by a few months later. What happened? I still NEVER listen to my Moonsorrow albums and have ignored most of this kind of stuff ever since.

I blame the fact that I don't listen to much Moonsorrow on the fact that I don't listen to a lot of metal nowadays, but I just put in Verisakeet right now and it still rocks my hairy anus just as it did a year before.

I think the only thing that interested me about the style was the novelty... now its just another gimmick that metal bands can try to pull off to keep the fans from wondering why they're still screaming about forests and darkness.

Plus it led me to explore real folk music and like that 10000000x better.

yeah, I suppose that's true

but seriously, in my opinion, Verisakeet is practically a throwback to stuff like Bergtatt in terms of awesomeness scale (although obviously not the same, or quite as awesome)

QFT. I'm shocked that anyone here wouldn't like it, it was a huge step up by Moonsorrow's IMO. Very much looking forward to the new one!
