New Slate Digital Plugin

There is a keyboard and trackball mouse in the video. I'm sure you can use it like a giant monitor screen if you want, and use the keyboard/mouse like normal (editing, etc.). If you look in some of the parts of the video you can tell he is using OSX, probably a computer off-camera which the Raven connects to. No point in speculating right now, though, just wait until more details come around.

If you look at some of the feature set and the video it tells you what it is ....or the only thing it could be

"Compatible with all DAW's"
"iOS on screen"
"Folders on screen"
"Touch Control"

So it works on PC and Mac, so its not stand alone. It basically a giant touch screen monitor with some VU meters, talk back, connectivity, and control.

Giant fancy touch screen with monitoring. Thats all it is. IE: Control Surface

My guess for price is over $20k. A 32" touch screen of that quality, the monitoring section, headphone amp, etc... NO WAY this is under $10k

I'm chasing a console next year and the thought of maintenance and recall issues is a bit daunting. Add a more seemless DAW integration and the probability of costs being down on a traditional desk and I'm definitely interested to learn more.

Oh boy...i have to give props to Slate cause he's breaking his ass trying to come up with innovatve audio products, but i'll be hard to see a professional recording facility getting one of these unless they want to have it for a B room or something along those lines.

I see this more as a super cool project for upcoming engineers like most of us, and i think if the price is right (around 10k) i would love to have it in my project studio (specially for client eye candy) you could probablly get more gigs (at least in the town i live) because of the way it looks.

As far as editing, i would still use my expert mouse but i would love to mix on it.

If it ends up costing like 15k-20k i would rather get an SSL Matrix instead.

i think this thing is fucking AWESOME.

i'd LOVE to have something like this and it's not like you CAN'T still use your mouse and keyboard, they clearly have both setup in the video and seems made space for it.

unfortunately i'm SURE it WAYYYYYY out of our price range. I've been looking for some kind of DAW Controller lately and NEED TO HAVE SOME FUCKING FADERS to do all of my automation....!

I hate to be the only negative nancy, but I HATE the angle they went with on that screen.

There has to be a reason why analog boards are always at the angle they are.

I sort of get why he angled it up like that, but it looks like a total PIA when your reaching for the top of the screen. The faders look to be at comfortable reach though.

Sorry, but DNW.

Looks awesome! Touch screen looks mighty responsive as well, love the whole transport. True multi-touch screen, this must be awesome to mix on! being able to bring in plugins and change parameters by touching on them must be quite cool

Very easy to reach the top of the screen. The angle was perfected with the aid of professional optometrists, chiropractors, and ergonomics specialists.

Working on this thing is like audio production bliss.

New info on the other new stuff including the new plugin coming soon. Thanks guys,

Steven

Steven, thanks for that info. Any way you can give us a ballpark price (like no more than $X or at least $Y) for the Raven?

Thought this was interesting for those wondering what a touch interface would help do...

I think Slate will announce the plugin when he announces the Trigger update that corrects the midi issue

It's just sad how long Trigger has been out and they just ignore fixing this problem. I'm all for Slate releasing new products but not when you neglect to fix a problem that has been around for YEARS on your TOP plugin!!!! I'm sure we will see a bunch more plugins before they fix the midi problem...If they ever fix the midi problem.

Virtual Buss Compressors!
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/8399995-post1.html

I am pleased to announce a new plugin in Slate Digital's VIRTUAL ANALOG series called 'VIRTUAL BUSS COMPRESSORS' or VBC.

VIRTUAL BUSS COMPRESSORS offer three unique sounding, 100% analog modeled dynamic processors that are ideal for program material.

Every nuance of real analog compressors has been modeled including the exact nonlinear characteristics of their transformers, tubes, vcas, amplifiers, phase distortions, harmonic distortions, and timing.

The first compressor is called the FG4014. It is modern, clean, pristine, and can compress program material in a musical but transparent manner. It is perfect for all types of mixes and masters, and even sounds great on drum overheads and acoustic guitar.

The second compressor is called the FG8014. This analog beast of a compressor is a hybrid model of a famous british console compressor combined with characteristics of another famous compressor known for it's red faceplate. It's punchy, fat, tight, and rich sounding, with a drive control that can enhance the transformer saturation to give it even more attitude. It is an amazing buss compressor for all types of music including rock, pop, country, hip hop, house, and more. It also sounds amazing on drum busses and even individual drums like kick snare and toms. This compressor was designed to be the ultimate "dream buss compressor".

The third compressor is called FG MU. It is modeled after the classic Fairchild 670, but then we added characteristics of two modern Vari MU compressors as well. It is absolutely gorgeous sounding with a warm, fat, deeeeep, musical character that is perfect for all types of music. For mastering, it can add the perfect final bit of glue, air, depth, and transient sparkle.

All of the compressors in the VBC bundle have a variable hi pass filter, AND a mix knob that can be used to control the ratio of the compressed signal to the dry signal. The FG MU can be used in stereo and mid/side. Each compressor can be used in a series, and the series can be rearranged by dragging and dropping. Compressing a mix with each one doing a very little amount can sound amazing! The series also makes it very easy to A/B/C the compressors on source material. Finally, VBC will come with stock presets made by some of the industry's top mixers.

VBC is in its final stages and will be released in November through the Slate Digital online store and all Slate Digital retailers worldwide. It will have an intro price of only $199.

Fabrice Gabriel will be at the Slate Digital AES booth #938 talking about the inner workings of the VBC, and the process of precisely modeling analog compressors.

Cheers,
Steven
