If you like other stuff (and older stuff) than metal I can recommend Minnie Riperton. If you ask me she's absolutely the best singer that has EVER lived! She made some soul-funk in the 70's, sometimes with a jazzy touch and she had a voice range of six octaves!!! Mariah Carey has a five octave range! IMO her best record is "Adventures in paradise" from 1975. I have all of her records, except for her first and a record that was put out after she died of breastcancer in 1979. It was a record released in 1980 and had a lot of guest apperances. Her best track is probably "Reasons" if you ask me, but "Baby this love I have", "Adventures in paradise", "Dancin' and actin' crazy" and more or less all she has done is great!!
I can also recommend the voice of Suzi Jane Hokom. Truly a fantastic voice if you ask me! I have previously mentioned the record she made with Virgil Warner, as the two tracks "Lady bird" and "Summer wine" (both written by Lee Hazlewood) are absolutely fantastic IMO and her fantastic beautiful voice just makes it even better!!! I have both songs by Lee Hazlewood & Nancy Sinatra as well and you can clearly hear the difference between Suzi Jane's fantastic voice and Nancy's weak voice! I have some tracks that Suzi Jane Hokom did with Lee Hazlewood before she made the record with Virgil Warner and you can clearly hear that her voice has changed for the better! One of the songs she did with Lee is also "Summer wine" and the one she did with Virgil Warner is clearly better!!
Patrice Rushen also has a decent voice IMO! Sometimes she sings kinda out of tune, but then sometimes she strikes right "to the heart" and give me goosebumps! I only have her record "Straight from the heart" from 1982. It has some gross disco tracks, but also some really nice chiller tracks!! I also have her single "Never gonna give you up" fropm 1980, which is a good funky disco track. I haven't heard any of her earlier or later work.
