NFL 2009

I was just about to say. The Colts have arguably the best pass defense in the league man. Last year they set a league record by only allowing 6 passing tds all season. Yeah their inability to stop the run is a problem sometimes, but still, only 6 passing tds allowed is just nuts. Peyton had 4 against one team two nights ago, think about it.

lol at taking pride in shutting down the Bills. They've been in a state of mediocrity for years. Dick Jauron is Herm Edwards lite. Edwards can't get to ball to is wr at all so far this seaason. The Saints beat the Lions, a guy making his first start at QB and the fucking Bills and that makes them "the most complete team in the league," get your head out of your ass.

Don't forget we molested the Eagles, bro. Can't leave things like that out for your own arguments convenience.

Look at the stats here:

#1 offense
(6th ranked passing offense, and the real kicker here #2 ranked running game)

#10 defense
(22nd against the pass, but 5th against the run)

Now also consider this: We're also tied for #1 in the league in INTs with 7, one of which was returned for a TD.

We're not going to challenge the Steelers for best defense, but combine our great passing attack with our running game which has proven is good enough to win us games, and #10 defense in the league?

We are a complete team.

The Steelers are not the best defense in the league any more. Not right now anyway. They have a lot of issues to work out on both sides of the ball.

Honestly, you shouldn't go to NFL.com and use their "rankings" to gauge how a team is doing or where they are ranked. All of their stats are based on yards. Even so, being 22nd against the pass in yards is atrocious. If the Colts play the Saints in the Super Bowl and their pass defense is still that bad we're going to see a repeat of the Colts-Cardinals game.

Here are the defensive stats through week 3.

steelers need more turnovers. I have them on my fantasy team and im 0-3

lol pwned

Wait, why do you never join my fantasy league you knob rider?

No! The only reason they only had 6 passing Tds against them is because you can run 90% of the time for a td man, really think about it.

Nothing about the Colts D is balanced. So you favor the run when you play them, easily. So you're right, the fact that they only had 6 passing tds is NUTS! and is proof of a poor run D.

Good point.
Miami completely man-handled Indy on the ground and controlled the game. Miami also sucks and couldn't close out the game...good teams with a solid running game won't allow this to happen. Indy gets it done with good (D) team speed and a nice pass rush on the both ends. Its been somewhat of a wierd start to the season and maybe its too early to read most teams? Hell, I didn't think my Pats 'D' would be doing this well and carrying the team to this point.

Ask Miami how that worked out for them.

Fact is, to win and win big in the NFL you have to be able to pass the ball and stop the pass. Obviously you'd like every phase of your team to be good or at least above average but that's damn near impossible to achieve.

I like to look at a team using the Three-Fifths rule (which I cleverly created years ago). In order to qualify to be considered a good team you have to excel in 3 out of 5 areas.

The five areas being:
1. Passing offense
2. Rushing offense
3. Passing defense
4. Rushing defense
5. Special teams

The Colts are clearly phenominal in areas 1 and 3, and are above average on special teams. Thus they qualify to be considered a good team and a Super Bowl contender which can be seen by their consistency to win 12 or more games the past billion seasons.

Sure it'd be nice if they could boost their run defense and run offense (which ironically they did to win the Super Bowl in 2006), but it's not absolutely necessary to contend for a championship. Just look back at the past Super Bowl contestants if you don't believe me. Most of them qualify for the 3/5 rule and a majority of them aren't great in all 5 phases.

the Colts send 4 guys on a pass rush, nonstop. fucking blitz!

They have been blitzing a lot (for the Colts) this season. In fact, that 20+ yard sack the Colts had on Warner last Sunday was due to Keiaho blitzing up the middle. =P

Miami sucks as mentioned.

The point is the Colts are much less likely of stealing games against a better experienced physical teams who may dominate / control the game and are also capable of closing it out unlike Miami. There are also teams like the Ravens who now seem to have a very good offense to go with the 'D'...this could pose problems for high powered offenses. Never thought I would be more afraid to face a Ravens offense (this week) than the Falcons offense (last week).

The way the Colts are going now with thier timing and big-playmaking on both sides...they may not have to worry about stopping the run and controlling TOP. The question is can they maintain it, more so the offense...do it when it will really count against good teams in the playoffs.

I would prefer the recipe as carried out in 06' as you even mentioned ironically.
