NFL 2009

I agree. Most fans are arrogant and annoying.

Just being a Giants fan is reason enough to see how shitty people are.

4 losses in a row and they are ready to throw Coughlin under a bus. This guy won us a Super Bowl by the way.

Oh my god, go to the Steelers message board. Here is just a handful of players that they were screaming bust on before they even played a snap: Troy Polamalu, Heath Miller, Lawrence Timmons (still, actually, because he's allegedly injury prone now that he sprained his ankle twice), Rashard Mendenhall (omg he fumbles every 5 seconds). All first rounders. Bruce Arians, the offensive coordinator, is the most hated man in the world. The offensive line and running back coaches are also idiots. Santonio Holmes has no hands. Limas Sweed needs to be cut because he's another bust. The whole entire offensive line will never be anything good and Colbert and the front office are fools for resigning all of them. They even wanted to get rid of LeBeau after week 3. I have a feeling most of these people are bandwagon fans, but either way, they don't know what the hell they're talking about and don't understand the way football works.

The players, the coaches, the league, the referees, etc., all consistently demonstrate a great deal of respect for fellow players, coaches, teams, and officials, with few exceptions like half of the Bengals.

That was last year, though. You haven't heard a peep out of any of them regarding incarceration or run-ins with law enforcement this year

Sports fans are indeed some of the dumbest people there are. Have you guys ever seen the ESPN message boards? It's impossible to even detect trolling because sincere conversation is so dumb. Most people seem to think the head coach and coordinators determine 90% of the outcome, as if the game on the field was a video game, and calling better plays would absolutely overcome any talent gap.

My expectations are pretty low this year for the Chargers. We (yes Dodens, "we") got no running game. We are dead last for running offense. Denver is a monster (though a seemingly tamable one). We're also not winning the battle of the line of scrimmage, and you really have to do that to win, especially if you're lacking in another major area. I just don't see us competing with the elite this year.

For the longest time I LOVED to hate sports. I had liked the Chargers when I was young, but really didn't pay any attention in my teens and young adult years. I felt the same way, that guys who were sports fans were just stupid beer drinking slobs with little intelligence. But then I just started getting interested again, sometime around '93 maybe. I think maybe sports fans are not categorically dumb, it's that people are, and some of them are sports fans.

DG during basic training?? :err: (sorry-had to)

Francis is actually my middle name, so maybe. Everybody in high school called me Slayer though.

muzmaze, you're actually all right. There's a difference between being a homer and being an asshole.

I was just kiddin...the "lighten up" quote from the clip is what I was hinting at of course...something I've needed to do and we all need to do once in a while. I have come to realize that though there are lots of jabs, shots and busting chops around here...I think its in good fun most times. There is more intelligence here, in general and in other circles of sports fans lives than you may think exists?

Bears 49ers tonite, who do you guys like?

These Teams match up well.

I think Vernon Davis has a huge game. Bears can't handle the middle of the field. After being embarrassed by the Falcons the 49ers lost 3 tough games in a row, this is a must win. Alex Smith can't possibly throw away another one can he?

If the Bears have any chance their D-line and Forte need(s) to step it up.

This game is terrible. Awful execution by both teams. I don't know where the seemingly good team that started 3-1 and beat Pittsburgh went. As bad as the Bears suck, I still think they'll win this game.

I don't see how that applies to Cutler unless you define "system" as having a Pro Bowl left tackle and wide receiver.

System quarterbacks don't really start at the NFL level. I'm thinking of guys like Timmy Chang, Colt Brennan, several of BYU's QBs, and various spread offense stars. These guys typically make up for average or worse arms with gimmicky offensive sets and good decision making.

Cutler's arm strength and accuracy are in the upper third in the league, but his protection and running game are so bad that it forces him to take too many chances. Other than the clear deficiencies of his teammates, his decision making holds him back the most. I think he's more or less the opposite of a system quarterback, which is actually perfectly demonstrated by Alex Smith, whose gaudy college numbers got him picked first.

The scheme Cutler played for with the Broncos was Mike Shanahan's, which was a very well developed scheme. Cutler thrived in it and now he sucks. Sure you could blame the supporting cast around him but that wouldn't be fair to them. No one forced Cutler to throw those 4 interceptions Thursday night, that was all on him. His poor decision making, poor mechanics, and humongous ego thinking he can fit the ball into any small space he wants his why he is playing like shit this season.

Shanahan was a great teacher and offensive mind in the NFL. The system Cutler walked in to at Denver allowed him to play at that high level. Chicago's offense is completely different and he's struggling mightily. That can only lead us to believe in one thing; It's the system.

I agree that the Bears' o-line is a bit shady, but he has a great running back who can do it all, he has some pretty good receivers and an above average TE. There's no reason as to why he should be playing as poorly as he is this season other than he isn't as good as everyone made him out to be and the system he played in in Denver inflated his stats and the the perception that he is a great QB, which is something I stated last year after the Bears traded for him.

Matt Forte is averaging 3.4 yards per carry and ran for 41 on 20 attempts Thursday. When you are no threat to run, the play-action is ineffective. Either he is not who you think he is, or the line in front of him is very poor. He's just a balanced back who will succeed when blocked for, and not when he isn't. Like most 1,000 yard backs he's not all that special.

Denver just had far more talent on that side of the ball. I don't think it has much to do with what plays are being called or what Cutler's being told in practice. Few quarterbacks can succeed when the defense is expecting the pass every time and can get pressure without blitzing.

the O line is uber crap. They get no push off the ball.
Kreutz needs to stop being a pussy. quit snaping it to Cutlers shins!
They still need a great receiver.
Ron Turner is a putz. most basic offense in the NFL.

Every team, every QB has a system...be it good, bad or ugly. Kinda simple, Cutler still has to perform and make decisions in the Bears system...he is doing so, just doing it very poorly. Some of those int's the other nite were inexplicable...not even close to his receivers?

after the game...he threw someone the salt shaker at dinner...that was intercepted as well!
