NFL 2009

Ok, the Packers are playing rather poorly, but I think the bigger story is the absolutely atrocious calls being made by the refs. I took notes on all poor calls/no-calls and I have concluded that the Packers might not be able to overcome the hometown referees.

Here is the list in order:

- Pass interference call on Woodson which leads to a TD.
- Reversal of the fumble and recovery call by Matthews, booth review stated that his arm was moving forward. Bullshit. Both announcers were stunned by the call. I really don't understand how you can make that call.
- No personal foul call on Harrison for a late hit on Rodgers or the helmet to helmet on Rodgers. Harrison hit him late and held him there while the officials watched.
- Hines Ward, the dirtiest player in the league by player vote, hit A.J Hawk in the back, but no block in the back penalty was called. The announcers both commented on how "he got away with one".

The score should be 14-14 right now without the penalty that led to a score. The Packers also have dropped a ton of balls.

This is a prime example of crying.

The packers gave up 500 yards passing in a single game. That's more of a problem than any bad calls.

All you ever do is bitch about refereeing in this thread. Could it possibly be that the Packers are the most penalized team in the league because they're undisciplined and not because the referees either have it out for them or have it in for all of their opponents?

Michael Wilbon actually said he thinks the Steelers will make the playoffs. I have a small amount of hope, but it's still a long shot. Either the Ravens would have to lose out, plus the Jags, Jets, and Texans would have to lose a game (and the Dolphins, but the Steelers play them so it's implied), the Broncos would have to lose out and the same teams would have to lose, or all of the other 7-7 teams would have to lose (the aforementioned plus the Titans). If the Steelers end up in a 3 way or more tie with the Ravens or Broncos, they lose by virtue of an inferior conference record, so they can only get in via a two way tie with the Broncos or one of the two 8-6 teams losing out. It's conceivable that all the other 7-7 lose a game, plus the Broncos losing, however, if you'll indulge my insanity for a moment:

Most probable scenario:

Steelers beat the Ravens and Dolphins to win out
Broncos lose to the Eagles next week
Jets lose to the Colts next week or Bengals the following
Jaguars lose to the Patriots next week
Titans lose to the Chargers next week
Texans lose to the Dolphins next week or the Patriots the following
Dolphins, as already said, lose to the Steelers the last week

OR

Steelers win out, Ravens lose out, and Jets, Jags, Dolphins, and Texans lose a game

OR

Steelers win out, Broncos lose out, and Jets, Jags, Dolphins, and Texans lose a game

= Steelers in the playoffs at 9-7

Barring that, to the war room to prepare for the draft to repair a depleted secondary and replace Casey Hampton if the Steelers don't work out a contract.

The wild card race right now is nucking futs. I have no idea who the hell is going to fill them. Generally I'd have some hint of an idea, but I have none.

The Broncos will most likely get hosed by the Eagles. The Dolphins will probably lose to the Steelers. The Steelers - Ravens game is a coin flip in my opinion. I hope the Colts beat the Jets. By that I mean, they will rape the Jets assuming Peyton and Co. play the entire game like they should (Gonzo is rumored to be returning to practice tomorrow so he'll need some playing time to get back into the swing of things). The Chargers are on fire right now so I don't see them giving one up to the Titans especially with Cincy right on their heels. The Jaguars fucking suck and we know the Patriots are going to play as hard as they can. The Texans...lol. Is it possible for both teams to lose in the same game? Maybe the Texans and Dolphins (frown) will make history.

Like I said, I have no idea. What I do know is that all of the teams who will occupy the wild card spots are probably going to suck and will get raped in the first round of the playoffs. There isn't a single wild card team that even deserves to make the playoffs in my opinion.

So, the Vikings played like shit yesterday and had an embarrassing loss to the Panthers. Bad blocking, missed tackles, poor coaching decisions... One week I feel really good about our team, and the next I can easily see a first-round playoff loss.

Look at the bright side, the quicker they lose the quicker we get to another thrilling Favre retirement suspense filled off season. Perhaps he'll decide by training camp this time, maybe he'll go ahead and go to Chicago and alienate everyone? Oh the possibilities are endless!

The majority of their penalties are on the offensive line and are legit. And I do not think that the refs have it out for any time. I just think they are absolutely god-awful and influence the outcome of the game much more often than any other sport.

Come on. You saw the calls made in that game. You must've seen how ridiculous they were.

Apparently you have never watched the NBA.

Considering AT LEAST 2 champions have been completely determined by the officiating atrocities involved, and one former referee was fixing games and is now stating that there are many others in a book he has written... yeah... I think the NBA gets the nod.
