Id say they were competitive the entire time with Warner, and in the 80s/90s they had surges here and there but never anything consistent. The Lions have been in the basement since Sanders retired and Scott Mitchell wasn't under center.
 
The Lions are heading in a good direction now. If they can keep Stafford up and on the field, then they'll easily contend for a wild card.
