Among the Horrors
Any comments on the remaining 3 football games of the season can go in the old thread.

So: We will have 8 new head coaches, amongst numerous other coaching staff changes. No CBA to worry about, and a draft weak in "skill position" players.

Another offseason is about to be upon us.

Can we start our pre-off-season prognostications?

For example: What will Reid do with the #1 pick?

Man, I'm pretty happy right now. Arians is gone and has been replaced with Pep Hamilton, Andrew Luck's OC at Stanford. Apparently he's known for being well-liked by players and is a "creative" player-caller, something Arians wouldn't know the first thing about. I appreciate Arians for what he did in his short time in Indy. Lord knows it wasn't easy, but I think for Andrew Luck to progress he needs to be in a different system.

Now, time for Greg Manusky to gtfo out of town. The defense was as horrible as every last season and no one had any good expectations with him being hired as DC.

edit: Although, truth be told, I would have been totally stoked to see Norv Turner hired as OC too. Oh well.

edit2: Apparently the Colts hired a new special teams coordinator, Tom McMahon, formerly of the Chiefs.

I think nearly everyone would be stoked to see Norv in their town. Except probably Jason Garrett.

Dallas has brought in former Bears DC Marinelli to be the new D line coach, ostensibly to assist in the transition to a 4-3.

One of my predictions is that Spencer won't be back, and Ratliff might not be back.

I was reading up on the Dallas cap position and it isn't great (as usual). Dead money and overpaid players. Everyone thinks "cut Doug Free", but they would be playing him an equal amount to not play, so that probably won't happen this year. Speaking of poorly managing the cap, IIRC the Cowboys paid Newman like 4+mil in 2012 to play for the Bengals. Dumdum. Garrett has excelled in personnel imo so far, and I hope he cracks down on this "overpay the bejesus out of a player after one solid year" crap that was going on under Wade. Might be the reason they franchised Spencer instead of doing a deal.

Im happy with what the Bears have done so far.
Trestman is a QB guru. Let's see what he can do with Cutler.
Anyone can be more creative than shitty Ron Turner, Mike Martz, and Mike Tice. Fuck Lovie Smith!
Bears also brought in Mel Tucker to be the D coordinator, he did a good job with Jacksonville

Bears still need to release Urlacher and Hester. Time to move on.
And Trestman apparently loves throwing to the RB's, so I expect Forte to have a monster year.
Hopefully Earl Bennett and Alshon Jeffery can have a healthy year.
And fuck Mike Martz for getting rid of Greg Olson!!!!!

As far as the 49'ers go....well, you know :kickass:

Brady will have another kid w Giselle and the Pats will bring in free agent Ed Reed. That'll straighten out the secondary. Pats will be in the AFC title game again either way.

Watching the Patriots fail in the playoffs/super bowl never gets old. I like how no one ever claims he's a "choker" though. I don't think he is, and I think that argument against Peyton is totally absurd as well. The Patriots as a whole shit the bed, not just Brady. Just like how the Broncos as a whole shit the bed against the Ravens, not just Peyton.

Brady and the Pats sucked against the Ravens. But you can no longer argue who sucks more and who has had the most playoff success. Peyton had another one and done. While Brady still added to his credentials and has had much more playoff success than Peyton...those are bottom line facts.

Brady is the winningest post-season quarterback. Peyton is the losingest. Them's the stats boys.

Anyway.

Before this scheme switch, I would have said Dallas needs to spend picks on OL, S, OL, WR, OL, DL, RB(or whatever is left in the 7th). Now DT/DL gets bumped up, but I'm not sure how much. A good 3-4 DE can play DT in a 4-3, but Ware is getting old and non of the DE/DTs are exactly a Ngata.

Defense blew the game, but when Peyton could have sealed it, he did not rise up to the task either. Watching everyone drop balls for the Pats is different

Peyton showed his true colors when the play calling became run after run in consec key drives instead of putting it in the air and going for it to seal the deal as you mentioned. Then when he did throw it...it was INT game over. Brady didn't help himself yest but that mindset of not going for it not putting it in the air has never been his style

Honestly I think the cold affected Peyton more than anyone admitted. I mean it's a 37 year old dude who just had a bunch of back surgeries playing in 10 degree weather for a game that took 5 hours in real time. Manning has never been great in cold weather and it's gotta get tougher as you get older and have more aches and pains from various surgeries/injuries.

Looks like the Eagles are gonna sign Pat Shurmur as their OC. Not a bad move. He did a good job developing Bradford in Stl and seemed to have Weeden heading in the right direction. He was the QB coach with the Eagles from 02-08 and just about every QB we put out there had success- though it's hard to know how much of that was Shurmur and how much of that was Reid.

Even though things did not work out in Cle, I think it's good for Kelly to have a resource who has NFL HC experience. Also Shurmur is a more conservative playcaller, which is a good balance to Kelly's aggressive style.

Hearing a million rumors on DC, but nothing concrete yet. Sounds like the Eagles might be switching to a 3-4 though. If that happens, I hope Star Lotulelei is still on the board at #4.

Hey no excuses. Peyton decided to come back even when I thot he should have retired. Regardless, he could've chose a few diff places to play but went with Denver. And we all know the climate and circumstances there. He chose and knew what he was gettn into.

Any guesses where Revis or Tebow will land?

Tebow will be in the CFL or AFL. No NFL team wants that kind of drama for a roleplayer. Revis will stay in New York. The Jets won't be able to get fair value for him considering he's coming off an ACL tear and is owed a lot of money.

The factors that led to the scenario in which Peyton ended up playing in 9 degree weather don't change the fact that his play might have been effected by it.

And he certainly proved that he shouldn't have retired. Had a great season, led his team to a very good record, the playoffs and earned 40 million bucks (this year's contract, plus next year's which is a lock at this point).
