NFL 2014

If you can come up with another plausible reason to have 200k lying around then I'm all ears, but at the moment I think that's the best explanation...

Well the previous few offseasons were pretty extraordinary because of Aaron Hernandez, Spygate and the lockout. This is a fairly average offseason. The only thing is a lot of the biggest free agents (i.e. Ware and Jackson) were cuts, so they weren't part of the pre-free agency hype. This draft is gonna be huge though.

Schedules out. The Bears play on consecutive Thursdays, which seems like the kind of thing that's never happened before. They've got Detroit on Thanksgiving, Dallas the next week, and then they host the Saints the Monday after that. Weird, though I do like the long layoff before playing Brees in the cold in December.

Can't complain about the Eagles schedule. Only one team coming off a bye, no three game road trip. The bye week is early, but not super early (week 6).

I like starting with some crappy teams like the Jags and Racists in two of the first three weeks. I'd rather not play Dallas on the road on a short week, but I do like that we get 10 days to prepare for Seattle.

I'm going to go out of my way to see a Cardinals game in Arizona. I've seen UofP Stadium, and I've seen them play in San Diego, but I wanna finally fucking go to a Home game.

I might also try to make that Aug. 28 presason game at SD, but only if I can find cheap ass tickets. I'm not paying regular seasons prices to see Ryan Lindley vs Kellen Clemmons.

EDIT: Ooooooh, maybe I'll take a trip up to San Francisco to see the Cards-Niners season finale. Could potentially be a huge game.

And regarding the schedule, I can't really comment on it. You see teams that go 3-13, go 14-2 the next year. The NFL is by far the hardest to predict.

Those wild swings don't occur that often, and usually no team that goes from basement to div winner is a surprise. Teams that have underperformed like the Colts and Chiefs in recent memory were not actually bad teams, they just lacked 1 or 2 elements that created a psychological deficit.

That's the thing. One injury or something could turn a team from a SB contender to a #1 overall pick contender. The only other sport like that is basketball (which to be honest, is probably worse in that sense).

Technically you can say losing a key player for a season in any sport is shitty, but it just seems more drastic in Football (and basketball). Losing your star QB or LT is probably more drastic to an NFL team than losing your #1 pitcher on an MLB team.

EDID: Either way, we're just arguing opinion.

Never thought Spencer would be a Cowboy longer than Ware. I guess the market was pretty dry for Spencer to sign such a low deal. Works well in the Cowboys favor though if he can get 9-12 sacks again.

Draft is tomorrow! What do ya'll want to see happen?

In a dream world I'd love to see Barr fall to the Eagles, but that's not happening. I'd be happy with Beckham, Cooks or Latimer. Fuller or Dix would work too. I'd be happy with Attaochu if we trade back a little. I'm both intrigued and scared by Hageman and Buccanon. Both boom-bust prospects.

And I really hope the Cowboys draft Manziel. Beyond being a massive waste in money that kid is gonna bust.

Wtf @ the Lions drafting a TE when they desperately need help on defense

Saints traded up for who seems to be a pretty solid WR

and Packers get who is hopefully the safety they've been missing on defense since Nick Collins got hurt

Like the Bears pick. I would have been happy with any of CBs or safeties that went in that range of the draft. Hope they got the right one. Would have been interesting to see if they would have taken Donald had he fallen one more pick.

Detroit should have traded down. Surely someone wanted to jump down there to get Donald. I like the move by Minnesota to trade up for Bridgewater. I don't know if he'll be any good, but it was a good value pick.

GB seemed to do well getting Clinton-Dix at that spot. Local press seemed pretty sure he would go to the Bears. I can see him being somewhat overrated due to playing on a stacked team and having a buzzy name.
