if Ultimate_Symphony's "insulted or called me any names" they were done with respect.

With post like this one it seems that you want to get a rise out of me and it really seems you want to get personal with this bullshit, I won't continue anymore since I didn't insulted anyone here. I gave my points without calling any names or bullshit and Jax already said enough and I will respect her and her status :p

Give it a rest already

Eh, to be fair, it was a tad arrogant for the guy to say "Symphony X scored #3 on my top 25." I think thats the problem, since I can see where some people are coming from: you could interpret that as "SyX wasnt good enough to be #1." Im not saying he didnt express that he likes SyX, Im just saying it could have resulted in less flaming if he just said "The Odyssey kicks ass" or something like that. I dunno, just trying to offer another opinion...

I see where you're coming from, but people need to realize that their favorite band aren't the best always and other people have different opinions, that's just my point of view.

As for the argument, I don't really think it was silly from my part (if that's what you mean) I wouldn't like this forum to become a ''Metallica board part 2'' so that's why i'm giving out my points here, but if people don't appreciate what i'm saying and try to get personal with this bullshit I can't help it. I'm already sick of this shit and the arrogance showed by some of the members here on this board and in the end this affects the band's image and the fans image (read one of markugs post if you don't beleive me) I won't even bother arguing anymore 'cause that will make me a bigger asshole and moron:rolleyes:

I was referring to the continuing BS back & forth after I requested that ya'll play nice. I didn't mention any names, and until I do, odds are I'm speaking to the group as a whole, not singling you or anyone else out.

No one has been reprimanded yet, either, I've just 1) asked ya'll to be nice, & 2) laid out ideas to help ya'll understand what I perceive to be nice & what's not. Simple as that. :)

 oh well

For those of you who read into the title of my thread wrong... and I think I am the only one who can be judge of this, as I am the author of the thread, and only I know the real intent on posting what I did.

I dropped in here only to share with fans the fact that I ranked Symphony X #3 for 2002 of "my personal choices." Not to say they were better or worse than anyone. Not the be all end all list, but just to see where others placed it. I really enjoyed the cd, and wanted to state it, as a lot of people in other forums mock me for enjoying progmetal.... I thought people here would be different...

Papa Josh's Top 25 Metal Releases of 2002 are as follows.

25. Myrkskog "Superior Massacre"
24. Vintersorg "Visions From the Spiral Generator"
23. Blaze "The Tenth Dimension"
22. Bloodbath "Resurrection Through Carnage"
21. Necrophobic "Bloodhymns"
20. Soilwork "Natural Born Chaos"
19. Napalm Death "Order Of The Leech"
18. Rapture "Songs For The Withering"
17. Cathedral "The 7th Coming"
16. Behemoth "Zos Kia Cultus"
15. Incantation "Blasphemy"
14. Vehemence "God Was Created"
13. Dies Irae "The Sin War"
12. Lacuna Coil "Comalies"
11. Hate Eternal "King Of All Kings"
10. Immolation "Unholy Cult"
9. DreamTheater "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence"
8. Agalloch "The Mantle"
7. Dark Tranquillity "Damage Done"
6. Mastodon "Remission"
5. Arcturus "The Sham Mirrors"
4. Opeth "Deliverance"
3. Symphony X "The Odyssey"
2. Satyricon "Volcano"

and #1 of 2002 goes out to...

NILE "In Their Darkened Shrines"

Considering the competition, I thought Symphony X would take it as great compliment. Didn't really care what anybody else thought...

Nile's owns. Whoever said they are cookie cutter death metal obviously has their head stuck their mommy's queef box.

BTW, what is a Symphony X? Bland wanker prog metal? Probably...

THANK GOD......................

Next time hopefully you'll mind your own business and stop trying to be the forum police!

Like I care, maybe next time you'll learn not to be so arrogant  oh btw let it go already, trying to get a rise out of me won't make you any more right.

I don't see how anyone could take the album ranking as anything but a show of respect for Symphony X. It's only numbers (which in themselves can be damaging because too many people just see them as meaning A is better than B, etc. Even a perfect score means nothing without supporting evidence.), and if anything the fact that the band scored high on a list largely composed of death and black metal indicates that SX appeals beyond and is making an impression outside of the narrowly and sometimes arbitrarily labeled field called prog.

Agreed on all points.

Yeah, I did see his list and noticed mostly black and death bands, and I think its cool that Symphony X has an appeal that can reach fans of those genres.

BTW Papa Josh (and any other death/black fans who find SyX appealing) have you checked out Adagio? VERY dark prog metal, musically almost reaching a level of black metal tonality at times but with an incredible guitarist and more traditional power type singer.

This is a good reason why the complete list is always helpful. The Porcupine Tree disc would have looked even more out of place but very deserving to be on everyones list.

Very well said Demonspell, I can't for the life of me understand how anyone could interpret that differently.

Porcupine Tree is NOT metal, and if you looked at the title of my list, you would see "Top 25 Metal cds of 2002." And by the way, what is your point in continuing to quote me at the end of every one of your posts?
