And I'm sure Spain and Spanish people are great, nothing personal! I don't like the Spanish style of play. ;)

Whoever wrote above that NEITHER side deserved to win had it about right. That game was fucking crappy. What a bitter ending to an otherwise very enjoyable world cup. The third place game was way more entertaining.

The game was dirty all around and while the Dutch definitely won for most ridiculously brutal fouls, the Spanish were nearly as bad. The game had no flow and while I was still cheering for the Netherlands, the whole thing just left a bad aftertaste.

The final irony after that second half of play from the Spanish was that they won the "fair play" award from FIFA. Yup.

Sad day for The Netherlands.
I just went to the grocery store and there was this funeral vibe going on along the entire way, everyone is depressed at the moment. The weather isn't really helping either, beautifully sunny the past few days/weeks, now that the WC is over, it's pouring with rain.

The finale was one of the worst and most boring matches of the tournament, with that foul play and all.

Here in Spain, people said Spain played very good football, but I think we couldn't reach the level showed in Eurocup '08.

Congratulations to Netherland for the whole tournament. It was a pity that they didn't played better on the final game.

Well for one he didn't actually play that well. I'm sure you saw some of the Japanese games, both of them played unreal.

I think he got it because Title > Skill.

Yeah, but Forlan was more awesome.

So, now that World Cup is over with, is anyone watching anything else? I'm going back to ignoring sports except for Roller Derby, and our local team (Rat City Roller Girls) is off season. I also do like going to local soccer games (with the Seattle Sounders) when they host friendlies.

I just scrolled through this topic, it was pretty much entirely used to discuss the World Cup, so I'd suggest checking back in 4 years when it will probably be resurrected for the next WC :)

Basically, a bunch of women skate on a rink in an oval. They try to pass each other, and get tackled in the process. It's great fun to watch, kind of a 'punk' sport, and the in-between bout music tends to run towards Dio and The Misfits.

Why look! It's news about the 2010 Uruguay World Cup Soccer Team that doesn't involve Diego Forlán!

Seattle has an MLS soccer team, called the Seattle Sounders. It is wildly popular here in the Emerald City. A week ago, we just signed Uruguayan midfielder Alvaro Fernandez, and he played his first game for the Sounders soon after that. We also acquired Blaise Nkufo of Switzerland. I think they're to replace Freddie Ljungberg (from Sweden), who is being traded to the Chicago Fire.

Now I may be motivated enough to go to a game or two, for the rest of the season.
