As for me I like good (I mean really good) interpretations of Stephen King (like Green Mile, Showshank). Although I don't know him much (to my great shame). And some really great films, they are little but they are:

And the best Monty Python ever 'Quest for the Holly Grail'!!
And I have to mention Edward Norton who IMO is one of the best actors ever! Well and Liam Neeson and many more... But still!

Ah... I guess you meant "familiar", not "similar".

Now that I think of it, another great Russian movie comes to mind: "Tired by the Sun" (Nikita Mihalkov). I was truly impressed.

Add Akira Kurosawa's "RAN" to my list. Unbelievable masterpiece.

"The Legend of 1900" (with Tim Roth) is another good movie.
