ok Urban..... who are your fave bands/artists

Here we go :loco:

Great choices and nice list. Some I like as well and a couple I like I never would have really thought of, so I replied about those.

Dirk Thurisch (Angel Dust) : he's all about emotion and tone, this guy is so underrated.

Dirk is a fair vocalist, but his passion is off the chart and he is a great frontman. When I think "metal" Dirk is one of those artists that pop into my head immediately.

Blackie Lawless (WASP) : the kind of guy you can recognize from miles away, incredible tone! I'mm a wiiiiild chiiiiiiild, I waaaaant youuuuuhouuuuouuuuuuu

That's really a great choice. Due to their image and some cheesy stuff BLackie doesn't get the kudos he deserves, but the guy can flat out sing.

Glenn Hugues : how could I forget Glenn? He rules and always will!

Glenn is simply amazing.

Michael Sweet (Stryper) : hehe yes I like him, he sounds like a girl at times but his vibrato is unique! Very gifted for melodies.

Nothing wrong with that choice. He is one of those guys I say is born with a "golden throat" like JLT and Steve Perry. "Normal" people just can't sing like that, even the "gtreats" out there.

Someone else who knows about Jutta and Zed Yago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:high fives Fangface:

ZED YAGO RULES! By they way they're getting out a new album. :}
Cool that you also like them :)
I don't know what to expect with this reunion though... can it still be Zed Yago without Jutta? I'm not sure...

As for Midnight forum, sounds good but... damn I'm already on too many forums, it's very time consuming :D Is the CG reunion still in the plans by the way?

Going back to singers, I also like Mr V Gauny, not one of my faves though, still he has his own way of singing so it can't be bad :)

They have a couple of videos of Yvonne singing the new stuff, she sounds pretty close (but not quite) to Jutta. Very cool, imho. :}

Well... the CG reunion will hopefully happen one day but no one seems to be able to make up their mind about it.

Drenning (is it just me or is that a really cool sounding last name?) and Jackson say they'd do it if they could get Midnight, who isn't telling us on the board anything definite... he is always very mysterious. :Frusterated look:

I went to the Zed website but their videos are only in QuickTime format, damn I hate to reinstall those crappy players, after all I've just done a full format of the hard drive o_O
I trust you though, if you say she's good.

And I hope this CG reunion will happen.... the sooner the better!
Midnight is too talented to stay in the shadows, what a shame. Come on Mid, come back home! NOW!

It's not that bad. It helps if you don't take yourself too seriously. ...as for being a metal fan, I'm not sure it's always tha case, however, yes, I really like metal music so I believe I qualify. On the other hand, the last year I've been listening extensively, if not exclusively to 'Yes'. If this makes me something else, well so be it. My favorite bands/artists would, (surprise, surprise), not be so much about bands as about vocalists. My all time favorite being Ronnie James Dio. Another favorite of mine is Bob Catley. Not metal but still...

Their's nothing wrong with yes, their only the second prog band ever. If it wasn't for them we might not have alot of the stuff we have today.

I think if you were to remove Yes, Rush, Fates Warning and Dream Theater from existance, progressive metal (though the first two aren't metal) would be a whole different monster than it is today. I think Queensryche would also be close behind those as well. What is ashamed is that Fates would have a hard time filling a large club right now in America and while they probably don't have the record sales of the other mentioned bands, they are really the closest prototype of the more famous prog metal bands of today including DT.

Lol, exactly what I told him!

Yeah I hear you, why can't everyone use DIVX?

I know, Fates does not get nearly enough attention! :v/

On a related note their bassist Joey Vera is nearing being in half the good metal bands in the USA (joking). HE RULES, as does Ray Alder's solo (which he plays in as well, lol) Engine. I prefered the debut though to the second album, lets see what they can do with number 3 shall we?
:}

Another great prog metal band is the Blue Oyster Cult, they continue today and still have not crystalized, in their album Heaven Forbid the singer even sings crunchy sometimes! I NEVER thought I'd hear that out of the super smooth voiced BOC! :}

I don't think BOC is necessarily considered Prog.
No BOC is not "prog" but there are some tendencies. Buck is a God on guitar and Bloom has a great smooth voice. I can honestly see where they would have an influence on prog with some of their melody changes though.

Hi everybody, I'm new here, hey is very cool that Urban write in this Forum too!
Tad Morose became one of my faves bands too :headbang:
Cheers

Yeah, I maen songs like "Astronomy" I guess could be considered Prog, but I would just consider them a regular rock band.

Bryant.....

Hmmm...... haven't heard it. I will look into it though. Urban certainly has a great voice. I don't love Urban though. He has three things going against him in that department. He is male, beyond his 20's and caucasian >:p~
