Open me up to a world of progressive metal

....may I add SYMPHORCE and BRAINSTORM Andy's vocals are supreme highs/lows, melodic, aggressive and powerful! There's a lot of melody in the music on Twice Second, Symphorce's latest release, heavy riffin' throughout and an all around great listen! check it out:
I personally agree that Andy is one of the best vocalists in metal (he would have been a very suitable replacement for Barlow), but i wouuld consider them power metal, not prog. Symphorce, i haven't actually heard but i assume they are the same. Brainstorm fucking rules though, no doubt!

Why stop at prog or neoclassical (very different genres). There is a whole world of thrash, death, power, heavy metal out there!

But one of my favorite favorite prog bands is Fates Warning. Especially A Pleasant Shade of Gray (best album ever) and Disconnected. They may take a while to get into, but once you do you will be glad you spent the time.

Also definitely look into John Arch's ep called...hmm the name escapes me...grr. Well just type John Arch is some search engine or cd website.

I've been digging Tad Morose of late. I like the vox and the guitars are pretty heavy.

For a good introduction to new bands, try various labels' websites, particularly Century Media (centurymedia.com) and Inside Out (insideoutmusic.com - home of SymX, Ayreon, Magnitude 9, and many others listed above). NEH Records (nehrecords.com) also has a buttload of '80's-types on their site (including a brand-new House of Lords CD with Lanny Cordola!).

Michael - your vox rule! I have your MP3s on my player every morning in the gym. I'm very excited about your album - what is the label, or is that secret at the moment?

John Arch's EP is called "A Twist Of Fate". I don't like the EP for one reason only, John's singing. My brother's got it and he totally likes it, but as for me, I can't listen to his whining for more than a minute.

But I'm totally on the same page when it comes to Fates Warning. Now that band is really cool (even the Arch era ;)). My favorite is Pleasant Shade of Gray and Disconnected as well. But I really like the others as well.

For people new to FW I'd recommend starting with either Parallels or Inside Out, Monument is one of the best songs ever...

Oh, and if you guys like technical metal, check out Spiral Architect. They sound kind of like a mix between Cynic and WatchTower, but they're very original. It's one of those (or THE) bands in which the bassist does more fiddling than the guitarists...

And for all things Prog related, check out http://www.progressive-newsletter.de/

There's a fairly complete link list for Prog band related websites

Very cool...having people like Laser's Edge, Mattias, and Intromental support your debut are some powerful allies... :)

I totaly agree Demonspell;-)

This is going to be awesome...we have "recorded" (on our home computer) 4 songs, you know just to check things out.."hmm is that a cool riff or not, should we go for a different approach on that chorus..blabla"...and allready now the shit sounds amazing...I can only imagine how the music will sound after a masters touch ( Tommy Hansen ).

I wish we could show you guys some parts right now, but contracts and stuff are not to mess with..hihi;-)

And yes, the guys at Intromental are a bunch of great guys!!! To all of you "demo-bands" that are looking for a management...Intromental is the ONE to send your demo to....allthoug they get 20 demos a week,MAYBE your band sticks out;-)

Best wishes Michael Eriksen

-Fates Warning absolutely great band, at the beggining I didn't catch it a lot, but then... wow!
-Dream Theather one of the best too...
( I can't say anything about Symphony X because it would be worthless, since we all know how great they are ;) )
-Also Requiem from Finland, they are Prog/power/symphonic metal... REally awesome!

Well, I don't have to list, since many of them have been already posted ;)

I would have to say that one of the greatest Metal Bands, unchanged and unspoiled, would have to Testment! They are a kick ass Thrash band that started in '87.
