I was suprised, but Opeth actually has a small writeup in February's Metal Edge. Talked about how brilliant they are and how artistic Mikael is. They kind of ignored everyone else. though. They said that "The Martin's" added a wordly flavor or something, but Peter was ignored entirely. It sucked.

In a way, peter doesnt really do much for the band, but it sucks how they overlooked him. i think he adds a lot to their presence in their music, also live.

Agreed, Peter rocks !!!

well Opeth were in Kerrang! back in march when their album got released. for those of you that dont know kerrang is for bands like limp bizkit, slipknot, and all that stuff. i was very shocked, also katatonia were in kerrang awhile back too. i think the headline for the double page opeth thing (well the pic took up more space than the writing) was theres death metal, heavy metal, nu-metal and then theres OPETH. the most unique band on the planet. now thats a fucking headline. pity no one read it, if it dont say slipknot people wont read it. oh well, its a shame. :sigh:

I thought metal edge was another Linkin Park, God smack, Limp Bizkit "metal" magazine also. Their "best of 2001" was loaded full of "those" bands. Perhaps with Opeth, Katatonia, and similar bands getting into the more lame magazines we are seeing the beginning of a change in the "mainstream". Personally I can't wait to see a Opeth T-shirt on the backs of every 14 year old hanging out at the Mall food court. (jk)

Ahhhh!! its the end of the world!! Kids that like slipknot and korn and limp bizkit, don't need to know about bands like opeth. Once they do the music will be ruined. We will get too many people trying to imitate it and then we will have idiots that would be like, hey you know what would be cool lets rap and use djs and play some death or black metal. I'm glad the new metal kids are too arrogant to pass up bands like opeth, it serves them right. They miss out on a good band, because they think they know god damn everything about metal.

Don't be so paranoid. So what if there are imitations? Just don't listen to them if they annoy you. It would be great for Opeth to be well known because it would mean they would finally be getting the worldwide recognition they deserve. I know they have an "underground" fanbase, but I think they world needs Opeth in their face.

Opeth was also in Guitar World magazine, quite a shock, but much deserved. I also have the poster from it on my wall :D Too bad it was a very small section, I ran out and forked over the 6 bucks for it anyways.
As for more recognition of Opeth, I think it is interesting. I don't have any sort of problem, I just don't want some kid in a Slipknot shirt and spikey hair to come up to me and say "man opeth is tight, I love that black park song, or whatever" I like the close feeling that I have with Opeth in the "underground" and over the past year, have kind of lost that feeling, but it dosnt change my perception of the band, or my feelings for them.

As for this comment, you would be suprised at the amount of music Peter writes for the band. When they write, Peter and Mikael just sit down and make up stuff, so he actually plays a very important role. As do all the members. It is the front man metntality that gets everyone.
