Assuming that following the release of their new album Opeth will be touring with some of their labelmates, what is the best-case scenario?

I say co-headlining with Jerry Cantrell in support of his forthcoming solo material.

Let's not get into worst-case scenarios.

Opinions?

TAHBE A FEKIN DREAM LINE UP DUDE........i loved AIC and also love Jerry's soslo stuff....that be killer...plus Nighwish are bad ass too.....and I think the same label...isnt LOG on Roadrunenr too....so yeah thats my 2 cents....haha.....PEAC EOUT

The best-case scenario is that roadrunner signs some other good bands.

Opeth should tour with Riverside opening. That would be better than anything (Besides doing co-headline with PT again.)

the impossible-case scenario would invole Opeth touring with Death... that would roxxorz
That would almost work....if they brought Chuck Schuldiner's corpse from out of its grave onto the stage. But then theres the problem of getting it to play guitar/sing.

yes it would

if they are put on a tour with labelmates from roadrunner, they would most likely be opening for a bigger band... that would be gay

also, original posta, nice avie!

thanks. i miss the crown already.

you know, even though i thought the tour with porcupine tree was great and i love some of the material on 'Deadwing', i really don't want to see them tour together again. i think because they were out in support of 'damnation' the tour worked, but i suspect the new Opeth album is going to be less prog-friendly.

of course, if i have to choose between pt and oh, say, slipknot, i'm going to choose wilson and co.

if they end up touring with a band not on roadrunner, i'm hoping for quo vadis or enslaved or even agalloch, although i can't really forsee any of those pairings happening. well, anything is better than having to sit through tapping the vein again.

agreed. that's part of the reason i am hoping for JC. i think that would be co-headlining, and that's the one act on the label i would stay for after an Opeth set.

i hadn't really thought too much about the fact that Opeth might not get a headlining tour at all. best not to think too deeply on these things.

jc?

also, i'd much rather go to a show and see variety, rather than 4 death metal bands or whatever in a row.

(J)erry (C)antrell. see original post.

i'm all for variety, but only in genre, not in quality. and i want the bands to have something in common musically. i think Opeth/Obituary/Deicide or whatever would be kind've boring, maybe, but better than the 'variety' of having Opeth open for shit like wednesday13 or 36crazyfists. if Opeth are going to play with someone outside the metal genre entirely, i'd like to see anathema or green carnation or something before seeing pt again. i'd rather see a band i haven't seen before than one i have, assuming they are of relatively similar musical quality (at least to my tastes).

although i am kind've pissed i'm missing the pt headlining show tomorrow.

well, mars volta are awesome, but i've heard they suck live. i've heard live mp3s of them that indeed suck. so maybe it wouldn't be that good :\ haha

i saw mars volta live in lawrence, ks. w/ the poet Saul Williams opening for them. i had never heard either saul or mars volta before going to the show (i went with a friend of mine, a drummer, whose band's demo i am producing this summer) and was blown away. it was a tiny little venue and i thought mars volta put on a frenetic, unique show. it's definately not the same vibe as an opeth show, though. opeth is about precision and exact duplication and being true to the song as it was written while they are onstage. mars volta reminded me more of primus, going off on long, meandering guitar solos and droning rhythmic passages. but the energy was great. they ran around in the audience, flung instruments and microphones and cords all over the place, convulsed like spasming eels. it was like watching a musical seizure.

i didn't really love the new mars volta album, and i'm not sure that the crowds for these two bands would mesh well, but i'd tolerate that match-up. i still like the enslaved/quo vadis idea the best though.

None. There are like 3 bands that would be respectable enough to play with Opeth, but don't particularily fit with them. The rest are just god damn fucking garbage.

I especially wouldn't want to sit through Devil Driver again. Looks like they're trying pretty hard to fit in now.
