Opeths musical evolution....

During the period of their three first albums Opeth are increasing their skill as death metal musicians and Åkerfeldt increases his skill as songwriter. IN my opinion they really come to life as a truly unique band with the release of Still Life in 1999.. In this album they generate a truly amazing fusion of the progressive rock of the early 70`s and the death metal developed in the early 90`s. Combing the fluidity and elegance of the former and the brutality and morbidity of the latter they express pain in ways no musician has been able to do before.
This attracts the attention of one of the greatest minds of the progressive scene today, Steve Wilson. He took contact with the band and it was soon clear that he would be the producer of their next album. With his guidance their unique expression is taken to new levels of perfection, and Blackwater Park recieves an overwhelming show of fan enthusiasm and uniform critical praise, as it rightly deserves.
With the release of their masterpiece Deliverance\Damnation they take their musical exploring to new levels, showing that Opeth is quite without peer in its contribution to advancing the cause of heavy metal in the new millennium. Damnation is a mellow masterpiece rivaling the works of the early 70`s with its beautifully assembled, reliably high-caliber songwriting. To achieve these two feats during one stay in the studio is almost unbelievable.
Open-minded listeners will sample both Deliverance and Damnation in the manner intended in the first place: together, as dissimilar halves comprising an astoundingly inspired whole.
Opeth are sure to continue their development, and I feel assured by the fact that they will find new ways to overwhelm us with their intense expression of the pain that resides in the human soul....

P.S : All you narrow-minded metal heads should really make an effort to expand your horizons. :headbang:
