opinions on best rackmount guitar amp?

So all my gear is conveniently in a rack. (amp, conditioner, wireless, FX...) but after seeing the rack the amp head idea, I think I am going to go find out how to get one of those racks and get a 6505 or a 5150.

I think it has to be custom made maybe. But if you find a used Head and go with this solution, it should be cheaper anyway than the preamp+power amp rack choice, AND it will sound like you want !! Moreover, it is not necessary to say that the 6505 sounds just fabulous.

But it would be SO FUCKING HEAVY HOLY GOD. Unless you think your band is big enough that you'll never have to play a gig involving stairs, I think that would be a very poor idea. And yes, those cases are everywhere, especially on ebay - Angstrom cases makes a bunch, and they seem to be of good quality...

I'd go with ADA MP-1 + VHT 2/50/2.
MP-1 is the best rack-mountable I've ever played. For me it didn't lack gain, just exercise your picking, but some people like to mod it. Visit www.adadepot.com for more details.

Definitely agree with this. I've got an mp-1 and it is awesome even fully stock. Considering i got it online for like 200 bucks and it is highly mod-able (with a pretty active online community) it is easily one of the best rackmount you can get. I'm thinking about getting another one specifically to have modded. They sound pretty good direct-in with impulses as well.

The Lee Jackson Perfect Connection's are supposed to be great, but i hear they're one-trick ponies

This is exactly what I was thinking.
Perhaps just a small rack for your wireless/effects/blahblah and then a separate 6505 head. It's not gonna be that much more to hook up.

why dont u just buy mine im selling! Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp bassed on a Mark IIC+ or a Mark III it rips threw a good poweramp (like a vht or mesa) im seeling it for 450 dude! let me know

sorry, but studio pre is bassed on Mk II and it's rather low gain in comparison with 5150.

And besides from that, 450 is to much

ok, i have my gain on 5 on mine, and its what i need and i play killswitch engage style gain levels. 6 is as high as id go on my amps gain idk about other peoples studio preamps but mine is like that, and thanks for the info on the MKII, the guy i bought it off of said IIC+ but i guess hes a liar. and 450 is a decent price trust me, that threw a good poweramp and cab sounds AMAZING

PFFFFF, Time to start deadlifting my friend. You will have no need for roadies as you will be able to lift heavy rack cases with ease.

18 seconds-33 seconds is his mesa studio preamp (and maybe 33-40 idk)

his gain was on 5 (out of 10) or 12 o clock w.e u prefer to call it

the studio pre does have alot of gain, the 5150 may have more, but if the 5150's gain on 5 is more then that, hell ya! but its not like ur gonna need to turn the mesas gain on 10 to compete with 5150's 6 or somthing

I like the rectifier sound, but was hoping to get something closer to that 5150 sound.

no the recto recording pre is based on a triple channel dual rec, the racktifier is based on the 2 ch (2ch>3ch for some people) but the recto recording pre and a 2:90 mesa poweramp is almost exact to a 3 channel dual rec
