Just want some input. A friend of mine is going to buy a new amp. He dont want to spend more than 900$. The style is thrash metal with guitars tuned i C. I dont know exactly what sound he is looking for, but Im guessing something as near 5150, Rectifier, Powerball, Savage as possible.
Some small combo version of one of them maybe??
Or shall I suggest a Spider? :)

thanks!

That 5150 combo look really promising! Perfect price!
Fireball, Framus dragon, 5150 is great but then he have to buy cab also.. witch he doesent have the money for!
But great suggestions folks thanks!

To bad they dont sell Schecter HellRaiser at musicstore.de..

Go Marshall, JCM800 2203 to be exact. Maybe a JCM900 SLX. All the older thrash bands played Marshalls. Engls, Rectos, and 5150s weren't available back then, hehe!

The vertical input 2203s are going to be a bit more money. The circuit is all PTP in them (I think), and they have more filter caps. People say the vert inputs have a bit more depth. The horizontal input amps still kick ass though, that's what mine was.

Stay away from the RIs, way too much money.

A lot of great suggestions! I think I have to talk more with him tomorrow and find out more spesific what he wants!

Anybody know if you can change those speakers in the 5150 combo?

5150 all the way. trust me, been there, done that, got the t-shirt - and the 5150
i'd stay away from the 2203 if you need more than just one rhythm sound and play anything heavier than oldschool thrash. for modern thrash, the 5150 is hard to beat.
the framus cobra does just that, though, but then again we're talking a whole other league as far as $$$ goes....

Hmm...

Why get ONE amazing thrash amp...

when you can get FIFTEEN of these?

Sounds like a winner to me...

I tried the Peavey valveking a while ago and was quite impressed. The highs were a bit nasty, but I noticed that by turning the treble waay down and turning the presence up it started sounding smoother. And this thing has enough gain for any type of metal IMO. And it's only 450€. However, since you have more money you should go with a 5150 or something else.

think about it:
rick hunolt (ex exodus): 5150 (live at least)
mille (kreator): 5150 (live, and for enemy of god)
pretty much anything in flames, or anything swedish for that matter
JF dagenais (kataklysm): serenity in fire, in the arms of devastation, and i think also the live dvd
unearth: the oncoming storm. that's exactly what a 5150 sounds like with 5 seconds of tweaking...which is nothing. you can get MUCH better than that.
and then on the other end of the spectrum you have guys like joe satriani who are said to use it for some rhythm parts mainly.

for like 700 euro used, do you really think you could go wrong with a 5150?

I have the 5150 + mesa rectifier standard 4x12 cab. It really kicks ass!
BUT since I may borrow his new amp for recording, I want him to buy an amp I dont have! :p If it was up to me I would recommended him to save up for a rectifier or maybe that Fireball! But if I forget about my selfish side I think I will suggest 5150 + shitty cab an then upgrade the cab later! I think that would be perfect!
