Poll - Everyones fav Opeth album???

Yeah, it's so funny to read about the various preferences. I am new to Opeth - but old to metal (seen Slayer 1985 in Belgium) - and I was wondering recently about which album to buy first. My first choice was BWP, because a friend of mine voted for it. Now I'm hearing it all day long. Tomorrow I'll get "Still Life" (after I've downloaded two tracks from it), and I'm looking forward to it.
Great band - glad I've discovered it. Late is better then never. :)

I don't think any Opeth fan would deny that Orchid is the most individual sounding album they have released. Not that it is better musically, technically, emotionally etc. It is simply the one that sounds the most distinctive compared to evolutions and refinement of their art on later releases.
They have never riffed like that again, Not that that is a bad thing, but I am sure that many people like me who came to OPETH late and then complete the obligatory back catalogue find Orchid a rare gem showcasing a rawer Opeth still influenced by galloping rhythms and more orthodox metal moments that Opeth make their own. I don't know if that makes Orchid the best/favourite album etc as that question always contains a self-imposed redundancy. I would say that it is undeniably one of the best debuts in metal history. That at least is a truth/opinion I would defend to the last.

Every single one is utterly brilliant! But if I had to choose one it would be My Arms Your Hearse, Mikeal's voice on this one is perfect, even though he had a cold when recording it! :) With each album they have evolved.

my god everyone has a different favorite. does this mean ALL Opeth albums are masterpieces? (I only have Morningrise, Still Life, BWP, Deliverance & Damnation). Funny how other band's fans are mostly unanymous about their favorite album (Symphony X: V or Divine Wings).

Yes. It does, karelrulez.

"This might have been asked before..." :loco:  :loco:  Maybe once or twice.
