Prog Epics

why bother posting the well-known ones

(rest in Related videos - highly recommended album for any prog fans)

(live version, but nice quality. Annie Haslam sounds like a Goddess regardless)

Speaking of Annie Haslam...

From a band whose singer is obviously heavily influenced by her. Good song.

What's with the random silence?

From what I can tell, two things are going on. First, you start to hear the piano melody from “Christmas Day” off Tyranny around 21:20 in this video. Tyranny and Room V are the two albums that surround Legacy. These two albums are both concept albums that follow the same storyline, and the “Christmas Day” piano melody is the main melody that ties the two albums together. In the opener of Room V, “Manhunt,” That piano melody is very prominent, telling the listener to pick up the story at the last place they heard that melody. There are also other tidbits of various songs from Tyranny in “Manhunt” that tells the listener to pick up here from Tyranny. It’s a very chaotic song, but it is also a very chaotic time in the story. We hear the piano melody in “First Light” it usher us into Room V, and it tells us that the story is not over yet.

The Legacy album doesn’t necessarily fit into the storyline of the two surrounding albums, but the lyrics are written in the same vein about escape, war, redemption, deceit, an evil controlling government/society, etc. After that piano melody that leads us into the Room V album, the silence begins. I feel this is a throwback to the closer from the 1995 Carved in Stone album, “Thanksgiving 1994.” Just like “First Light,” this song consists of some silence, followed by knocking, and then a soft organ sounding melody that builds in emotion gradually and adds some light percussion as it reaches its peak.

Just the thoughts I get from listening. I’m a huge Shadow Gallery fan. If you haven’t already, you should pick up Tyranny and Room V, and the video that explains the storyline of the two albums and what is happening during each specific song.

Best Pink Floyd cover ever. Try to count the number of songs contained therein. I love the Pigs/Mother mashup near the beginning.

I'll have to listen to those then. I got the Legacy album today, and I think it rocks. Are the other two just as good or better?

Legacy is great. That main riff from Society of the Mind gets stuck in my head frequently. Cliffhanger 2 jam is ridiculous.

Carved in Stone, Tyranny, Legacy, Room V, and Digital Ghosts are all good albums in my opinion. Their debut self titled album isn't as good as the rest of their catalog. The early albums are cheesy at times, but I like cheesy. Room V is probably my favorite.

Bakes was such a great vocalist. :worship:

Supertramp - Try Again

Their first album was really good, but afterwards they became very boring!!
