ok sumone please explain to me what the hell progressive metal is exactly. Does it mean each song progresses in speed, each album progresses in quality...... its really starting to annoy me....!?!?

It's progressive metal if you can't stand to listen to it for more than 2 minutes straight.

Seriously, the point in progressive is to do over-the-top, sometimes masturbatory things with your songs. Unusual structures, long playing time, weird solos, sections that lead nowhere, etc. That's at least the way I see it.

Generally 'Progressive Rock/Metal' are genres that take normal rock/metal and add to it... or at least that was the starting definition. The songs are hardly blatantly monotonous, and generally very dynamic... there's alot happening, alot of sections, different approaches all during the one track.

And the albums are very different themselves. The best example of this is Jethro Tull. None of their albums are similar except for Ian's flute playing.
