There are so many good bands from that era. But if you're looking for something really non-mainstreem, I suggest checking out Gentle Giant. They mix Hard Rock, Jazz and Classical Music from the Renaisansse period. Beside playing amazing music, they do a lot of cool things vocally. Check out the song UPON REFLECTION....the majority of the song is a 5 part vocal fugue. Amazing stuff! Other Artists/bands that I would highly recommend are Frank Zappa, Spock's Beard, Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation.
