PT LE to HD Converts - Is it worth it?

Greetings Friends! It's been a while since I've been around here.

With the recent introduction of Pro Tools native and the considerable price drop for a HD system, I've been considering making the jump from LE to HD. Why? Two thing that drive me mad (and probably everyone else) is latency and ADC.

Who made the switch and was it worth it?

Haven't converted myself, but I constantly use both LE and HD systems, and I think it pretty much depends on your needs. If you plan to work on serious, commercial projects, LE won't take you pretty far IMHO, and I'm facing the point of having to upgrade myself in the near future. If PT is your weapon of choice and you don't want to switch to anything else, I'd assume it's worth every penny.

Whatever you do, I'd advice not to do it just yet. While it might be just rumors, it seems there are more changes coming from Avid's way (check AIRUsersblog, for example).

The converters are significantly improved but you can use third party A/D/A so any decision should be made on software needs, simultaneous i/o and latency. If you only need better converters I would suggest buying an apogee or rme and running it into your LE interface.

Sell your 003 for a lynx aurora 16. 16 digital AND 16 analogue inputs simultaneously. It then will operate as your interface into the pcie.

All good ideas and info but at the moment latency and ADC is what's really bugging me. Next week it might be something else. I'm thinking that instead of dealing these annoyances week in week out I should bite the bullet and go HD. Maybe it won't solve anything. I never had any issues before PT arrived in my life, but I don't want to change daws, I like PT but there's a few things that bug me that HD would probably solve.

Even if it turns out to be nothing, it might be a good idea to wait before making hasty decisions unless you need HD now. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, and I'm eagerly waiting if Avid still manages to surprise me. In a positive way this time. If not, I just gotta start saving pennies for a new MacPro and HD.

I really can't figure out how people deal with not being able to see the waveforms while dragging in PT though, drives me crazy andunfortunately HD doesn't fix that one.

I've got to say after reading your Reaper slip editing tutorial this annoys me too. I hope they add it in the next release but I'm not holding my breath.
