You know, I actually agree with you. It's not being close minded, but I don't want to hear about rock bands, I never got into that even after some listens(being close minded would be hating the genre without giving it a single listen). I want to hear about new metal bands.

I am not a Pink Floyd fan but I can appreciate their genius and legacy ... I never have a problem with "rock bands" per se ... it's the "quasi metal" bands that irk me.

I can understand if you want to keep the nominees firmly within the metal spectrum, but I can never understand what drives someone to confine themselves to just one genre...although I think the "I'm open minded...as long it's metal" stance is more of a reactionary thing amongst people who dislike the idea of prog, post-rock, etc. than a reflection of their actual listening habits...
