Recommend a band thread (with a slight variation)

Maybe y'all have already heard of em, but here's my take:

Soilwork- very melodic fast swedish death

Voivod: Canaidian, try more experimental albums like Phobos or Dimension Hatross. Very simple yet thought provoking.

Zao: Christian, but kickass (the new stuff). kinda hardcore death metal stuff.

Mental Home: Russian, only heard one tune on a compilation, but loved it.

Scissorfight: New Hampshire rednecks, call their music Death Rock. I think that is accurate.

erm WAYLANDER!!

sorry, as some of you may have noticed i have an obsession with them! sersiously download a few songs from Audiogalaxy and check them out!!!

Sigh- Finally gaining a little recognition, largely due to signing with Century Media prior to the release of Imaginary Sonicscape earlier this year. Warm classic rock inflected post-black metal...on an acid trip.

I dunno, Hail Horror Hail got pretty decent press and attention...

Fleurety- The last word in avant-garde post black metal. Tends toward jazzy and subdued, yet quite dark. Brilliant

Absolutely amazing band. Min Tid Skal Komme (or however it's spelled) is one of the absolute gems in my collection.

VINTERSORG!! Kickass motherfucking epic black metal. I wish more of his stuff was in english, but who gives a shite???

MR. BUNGLE. Not exactly metal, but by far the weirdest music ever burned onto plastic. Their music is BEYOND acid trip. Think about the weirdest band you know, multiply that by 10, and you've got Mr. Bungle.
oh yes, Testament too:D

Some of you know this band, but I'll recommend them anyway: Brave (used to be Arise from Thorns)

They're not metal, first off.

OK, so you're still reading. It's a female singer (not that operatic crap), acoustic and electric guitars. They're quite metal-inspired (songs run about 5-7 minutes, intricate time signatures and changes), which is why they share fans with the metal bands around here and why they always open at metal shows. Some of the songs are happy/major, but most are sad/minor. Solid stuff.

It's ok. I was kind of pissed off already when I read that. Sorry I bit your head off.

I've heard of all these bands so far. I'm astonished that Windham Hell are taken seriously by anyone at all. The CD I have is terrible, even by Morribund's low standards.. Pointless guitar wank with no redeeming features at all.

I'll have to step outside of metal for my recommendations:

Keith Caputo - ex singer of Life Of Agony, now a heartfelt tunesmith with a great line in simple, yet moving, songs. Download "Home" or "Brandy Duvall" from Audiogalaxy.

Chris Morris - British "comedian". Nearly caused cardiac arrests with his "paedophillia" satire show that was aired in the UK this year. The tabloid papers declared him the sickest man in Britain; a title I'd love to hold.. Audiogalaxy has a track called "Unbroadcastable" by him, which is a simple sketch featuring a woman going to the doctors.. listen and find out why it couldn't be aired.. :)

Sense Field - Ignore the brand new album and wallow in the greatness of this band's earlier releases, namely "Killed For Less" and "Building". Fantastic Emo, and light years ahead of it's time.

The Cardiacs - I've said it before, and I'll say it again until I'm blue in the face: This band are one of the only groups in the world who can genuinely say they don't sound like anyone else. Not to everyone's taste, but, like Opeth, once they bite they don't let go. www.cardiacs.com

I could go on, but I'm too drunk to type :)

Garden Of Shadows. Great band. Everyone _must_ have everything with them (that is Heart of the Corona and Oracle Moon :)

-phyros (who probably insulted somone, and made another one interested in such a great band. Worth the risk. )

You LUCKY grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Brave and Garden of Shadows are two of my favorite 'newer' bands (if we count GoS' debut was just last year and Brave's material really just started getting out this year)...

You get to see these people ALL THE TIME.

*jealous and full of hate because you live where there's a good scene*

Most unordinary thing are the extremily slow vocals

The vocals are some of the most unique in metal history, but their most outstanding feature was the constantly shifting array of riffs and tempos. In their way, one of the most progressive metal bands of all time.

You need to qualify that, it got great reviews and press in very narrow circles, significant coverage in rags like Metal Maniacs and Terrorizer didn't come until they signed with Century Media.

Department is even better in my opinion... Ever read their official bio though? It's one of the most pretentious things I've ever laid eyes upon...

Transglobal Underground "TransGlobal Underground is a U.K.-based collective fusing as many different kinds of world music as its members can get their hands on. The group's core is composed of vocalist Natacha Atlas (who has recorded with Jah Wobble, Apache Indian, and her own band, Atlas Project), keyboardist Alex Kasiek, drum programmer Man Tu, and founder, bassist, and sampler Count Dubulah. The project grew out of a mutual love for dance, avant-garde, Arabic, and world music and draws on each member's listening tastes and cultural backgrounds". Review -
