Well, the title tells pretty much everything...
About a year ago I bought Watershed and Still Life.
Of those two I preferred Watershed.

I guess it depends on which aspects you liked best about Watershed? Opeth has had several stages in their music and it really depends on which qualities you liked most.

This^.

This band changed pretty vastly from album to album. If you want to hear both extreme ends of the spectrum get both Deliverance and Damnation and be done with it.

I find this really hard to describe. There is something in the cleaner parts of Watershed that I'm missing on Still Life.
I also like the balance between clean/growls on Watershed.

MAYH is my favorite opeth album, 2nd is blackwater park.
Thanks, I'll take a listen to them on Youtube :)

BWP, Watershed, MAYH are my faves, in that order. BWP is like the culmination of the old style Opeth with the new style, and I really dig the production as well, the best up until then (8 tracks on each side for rhythm guitars? fuck yeah). Watershed is probably the best so far, from a production standpoint, the songs are also great. MAYH is just a good ass album in general. With that said, their older albums, Orchid, etc., are good as well. Like someone said, Opeth has changed with every album they have done. I suggest going on YouTube or something and trying to find songs from each album to check out to see which one(s) you think you would enjoy as a whole.

MAYH was my first Opeth record, then I believe Deliverance. Any record except Damnation or Heritage would be a good start; IMO they're great records, but those two are probably best left for those who know what their sound is about, and understands where it really comes from. Like, Heritage has a very 70's sound to it, which is a HUGE influence on even their classic records.

I seem to be the only one that thinks Morningrise is their best album. Certainly not the most technical one or the best production, but I love the atmosphere on that album all the way through. Blackwater Park and Deliverance are great too, but don't strike the same nerve for me. And I don't like Ghost Reveries at all.

Certainly no consensus to be found so I'll go with recommending Blackwater Park as some others have given your preferences from Watershed. You also might want to look into a live release like Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall which has Blackwater Park played in it's entirety as Set 1 and then songs from other albums including the closing track "The Lotus Eater" from Watershed. The only note I would mention is that the live album I mentioned is only available in audio format as a boxed set as a 2 DVD and 3 CD set. It is available as a stand alone DVD however.

Came here to agree with Ermz. Still Life is far and away their best effort. Kinda odd to see BWP being listed as their big one.. but I GUESS it is sort of their breakthru in a sense... but that's definitely badass. Its weird for me cuz Ive honestly been listening since between Orchid and Morningrise so their new stuff to me is where it gets kinda... odd in a way.

Still Life, Blackwater Park, MAYH - anything before and after is definitely good but that trio is where they were hitting the nail on the head in every fashion.

Actually Deliverance is pretty fucking slick too I totally forgot about that for a second... add Deliverance in there, lol.

Thanks for all the recommendations.
I can get the Blackwater Park Digipack for 8€ in a local store, so this would be a pretty good deal^^
But I'll decide after listening to songs from all of the recommended albums :)
