i've started a thread like this before, but it would take my bourboned brain approx. schfourteen hours to find it since search has been gone since 1992, so yeah.

cowboy bebop the movie is the best i've seen so far, mostly due to the great god damn characters.

i have netshitz. school me.

the best anime i have ever seen is Neon Genesis Evangelion dont know if youve heard of it but its a series of like 26 episodes or there abouts its loosely based off the dead sea scrolls. it has angels sent from god trying to bring on armageddon but in true japanese style these are huge monsters a must see.

other good one's ive seen are ninja scroll, Fist of the north star and bubblegum crisis oh and who can forget dragonball z nah kidding

Yes. Evangelion rules! :D

Tenchi Muyo OVAs 1 & 2 are kewl...Slayers and El Hazard are good fun. Perfect Blue is a brill anime film :)

I'm an anime novice and I like: Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell I & II, Akira, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Grave of the Fireflies. Any of those ought to be good starting point

Spaffe recommended two great ones (grave of the fireflies and spirited away)
Others i recommend are, Last exile (air battleship type stuff, very good) cowboy bebop series, Berserk (fantasy type stuff, pretty violent), ghost in the shell, visions of escaflowne, and rahXephon (similar to neon genesis)

p.s Nice wallpaper thanat...make one of faye, sexyyyy :loco:

i shall hold this thread is close to my heart, butt, and sack for future reference.

i have highly enjoyed the following:
princess mononoke
spirited away
ghost in the shell
cowboy bebop

evangalion is one i need to watch asap (been saying that for years now) because the best videogame ever, xenogears, was based on it.

cool wallpaper.

Samurai X does fucking rule. (all Rouroni Kenshin rules for that matter.) Also, check out Lain. More psychological thriller than action though. Oh, and since you all are talking about the whole Cartoon Network line-up, Paranoia Agent and S-cry-ed rule.

I watched s-cry-ed a few times... seemed overly cheesy.. but then again that's a side effect of the dubbing, I'm sure. It happens to the best of them.
Like with Evangelion (my favorite anime series evarrrr), I mistakingly watched a dubbed version once, and wow! I am saddened it even exists :/

Yeah, I refuse to watch things (if possible) with english dubbing. Subtitles are the sex.

For real? I did not know that!

The Evangelion dub is quite shit hot, I thought. Though hearing the girl who did Rei's voice talk normally on the commentary for Death & Rebirth was somewhat disorientating!

Judging by what you've seen so fair, NAD, try these:

Akira - seriously, no joke, this is practically the epitome of anime

Howl's Movie Castle - same director as Spirited Away, came out really recently, may not be on pirate yet..

Hellsing - TV anime series about an uber-powerful vampire who joins a London-based, goverment-approved organisation that battles the presence of the undead and demonic on Earth.

Trigun - three words - LOOOOVE AAAAAAND PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCE!

A lot of good recommendations here. I'll add Texhnolyze because it's so unique, Haibane Renmei (NOT about angels or religion despite popular opinion) because it was so peaceful to watch, Basilisk: Kouga Ninpou Chou if you like action (based on the work of an author that Ninja Scroll was also based on), Azumanga Daioh for comedy, Hajime no Ippo (a.k.a. Fighting Spirit) for sports lovers, and finally FLCL (a.k.a. Fooly Cooly or Furi Kuri) for a fun show with a ton of symbolism. I'll stop there for now.

And the Read or Die OVAs which are fun, Kino no Tabi (Kino's Journey) which is beautiful and unique, Gankutsuou which is a sci-fi remake of The Count of Monte Cristo, and X (if you can get past some of the homoeroticism). Seriously, I'm stopping now.

Oh, and Outlaw Star is probably a good one too since you like Cowboy Bebop. They actually came out the same year (known to some anime freaks as the Year of the Space Epics). Okay, stopping.
