Im just trying to work out what room samples is as refered to by Jen Bogren in a thread talking about snare :

"The room will make a huge difference, if you don't have that possibility you can use room samples (not sample reverb)"

This whole thread has been an amazing insite for me, although I was figuring out these things for myself it has really cleared up a lot of time I have spent wondering.

But this Room samples thing is interesting.

I think he means blending room samples of the drum hits for sample replacement maybe? Like the Z4 hits in the Slate packs...

I think he means this as well.

When I'm sampling a kit I sample at is a whole. All the mics are recording simultaneously rather than just the direct mic of the drum being sampled allowing for more ambience options during mixing. Room mics as Jens Bogren mentioned can be a nice addition to samples as well if your tracking in a good room

I almost always chop up the overhead information to blend with the direct mic samples.
