I respect both bands for being innovative and partaking in the creation of the genre of metal, make no mistake about it. I just don't get any emotional response at all when listening to them. It's just background music. Don't hate it, don't like it.

Stop basing your opinion of At the Gates on "Slaughter of the Soul" please... It is akin to basing your opinion of Metallica on The Black Album and not acknowledging that everything before it was vastly better and more real... At the Gates is one of the best and most important three bands Sweden has ever had (together with Candlemass and Bathory)... Just fucking IMMORTAL. Pretty sure there exists no such thing as a better death metal album than "The Red in the Sky is Ours".

Now Nevermore on the other hand is just Really Fucking Mediocre groove power metal
