SKYRIM!

Despite suffering from a severe case of consolitis, this game is quite fun. The dumbing down of the somewhat convoluted skills system of the past games is welcome - though in some ways it does feel overdone. I really miss creating my own spells, among a few other things. On the whole it seems to have cut down on the possibility to create the invincible demi-god type characters I loved making.

The UI thing should go without saying. Most regressive change ever for PC users... just completely retarded and arse backward. The hot-key system for items is so retarded it's almost beyond belief. Needing to surf through your menu, then 'favourite' an item, then look through a separate favourites menu, only to bind it to your number keys is so so so retarded... ever been disarmed? It's fun, because you have to go through that process for the weapon. Needing to 'tab' as a back key for everything is awkward as hell, and all those hard-coded keys which can't be altered, and aren't even documented... Well you can tell they were aiming this one at the gamepad crowd.

Lol I played until now and only paused a few times to eat or go to the toilet. It's 6:40 in the morning and I started somewhere around 14:00 o'clock :puke:
This game is not good for me. btw, high-elf battlemage + werewolf = epic win
Only the giants and mammoths are ridiculously strong haha

remember what i wrote in the "steam was hacked thread" !? :D
Haha yeah I do. The speed is always like that, though.. only strange thing is the estimated time, not that it really matters but it pissed me off. :erk:

Quick question since I've noticed something: Do your weapons and armor not degrade like in Oblivion? You'd think will all the crafting and shit they'd leave the repair skill in there. huh, weird.

Nope, they only run out of charges if they're enchanted. No durability otherwise (thank fuckery!). I find the charges system cumbersome enough TBH. It's why I mostly play spell-based characters in Elder Scrolls games.

Having so much fun in this game.. game of the year for me.
Sure it have some slight issues, but nothing game breaking.

oh and it looks stunning with graphic tweaks and ultra setting.

So, anyone keen to share their power-leveling tips?

So far I've managed to find these methods:

Alteration: The easiest, by far. Just get 'Telekinesis' and grab an item and hold it for as long as your Magicka allows. Then rest for an hour, rinse and repeat. You'll get to 100 in no time.

Enchanting: Apart from disenchanting everything you find, a great method is to stock up on petty souls and iron daggers. Simply enchant as many of them as you can and watch the stat fly.

One Handed: Summon a creature with high HP. Use Paralysis on it. Pull out two swords and use Elemental Fury shout. Go to town!

Smithing: Go out into the wilderness and kill as many wolves/sabres/bears/various pelted animals as time will allow. Now turn these all into Leather and Leather Strips at the tanning station. Go to town making as many Hide Bracers as you possibly can. Same principle applies for Iron Daggers, except you can buy Ingots in stores.

Some I'm really struggling with are Destruction and Restoration. The best I've found for Destruction is to summon a creature, paralyze it, then go to town casting Flames or Frostbite (seem to up the skill more than higher level spells).

Remember, with spells the key is to cast with both hands, but NOT with the skill that 'overpowers' the spell. You need to be casting a single-strength spell with either hand, so make sure to start with one, then use the other - don't click both mouse buttons at the same time. This will give you a lot more skill gain.

Played about a bit more and got into it slightly.

The levelling system is a big improvement - words cannot express how much that sucked about oblivion and really ruined the game for me - calculating how you are going to have to level is stupid. I like the "perks" idea and the new lockpicking; the Oblivion system never made much sense to me. Dual wield is cool, no durability is amazing because it was just annoying in previous outings.

Some of the plot workings are a definite improvement, whilst I don't really dig sitting and talking to a computer still and it's harder to skip, I liked the more linear plot elements - cutscenes *gasp* to actually give the game some depth beyond just hacking and slashing at things for levels.

Thanks for the tips, Ermz. I'm not too big on power levelling in the early phases of the game as I find I spend most of my time just doing that and not bothering with the actual missions. Once I complete the primary quests, then I start focusing more on that stuff.

Fuck Royal Mail, they've been acting like fucking cowboys for the last six months.
I went down to oxford street to get it, and I'll return my Play pre-order whenever it arrives.

Been playing for about 4 hours, already Level 5, learned a few shouts, love the new lock picking, new graphics are amazing even on my 4000 Series ATI.

Hate the new menu system having to use the arrow keys to go through shit sucks.

hmm, just returned to whiterun/dragonsreach and i am getting attacked without any reason, i didn't do anytihing.
i got a bitch who is supposed to do,waht i say. i've read that it may be that she attacked someone randomly.

what can i do now? any ideas?

I don't seem to have this problem although it's not perfect either...I just use the mouse and it lets me choose topics and roll down through menus with the mousewheel. Maybe try turning off the 360 controller selection in the gameplay menu?

I also don't really power level, don't really have to as I'm already @ lvl 15, 24 hours in, says Steam.

One protip i can give is if you're at a dungeon and having a tough time, just go do some other stuff for a while and come back to it, the enemies lock to your level when you first step in, so you will be more powerful than they are a level up or two later on in that dungeon.

edit: typos

I'm in love with this game, but goddamn it's a fucking BUGGY game! I'm playing this on my xbox 360, jesus flying fuck! The bugs on this are ridiculous, from dragon skeletons humping the floor to the "voice of the dragon" or whatever that quest was called being completely broken. For example,

**************SPOILER ALERT*******************

there's this quest called "Animal Extermination" where you have to clear the Ice Wraith from Sigrid's Home in Riverwood give by that bitch aela the hunter or whatever from the companions, apart from a waypoint not appearing on the map, when I go to the bitch's home, she just talks normally and there's nothing there o_O.

I'm at lvl 9 atm, and I deeply regret choosing a Kajhiit... but don't want to play this shit from the start now, why the fuck did I thought it would be a good idea to play as a cat?

Leveling sounds pretty Morrowindish to me...jumping for an hour still works too?

IIRC I loved to summon one of the powerful creatures to get their soul into the gem and to enchant something...or something like that, been a while since I played it the last time, and it worked differently in Oblivion...
was very cool too tho, had an outfit that made 100% chameleon...pretty fun :D

haha no man, there are no "acrobatics" or "athletics" skills in Skyrim. only thing that helps you move faster is increase stamina so you can sprint for longer periods.
