smoking

i'm don't smoke but i think i'll die at around 50, born with heart problem

I smoke Marlboro Lights now... I used to smoke Reds but I've been cutting down. (Well, cutting down from Reds to Whites, yet I still smoke a pack a day.) I've been smoking for about 10 years minus 2 years when I quit. I started back about a year ago. Why? Because I wanted to... I'll probably quit again here soon... I smoke to help lessen the mass amount of stress in my life which I consider to be MORE harmful to me than smoking... (Smoke or Suicide? Smoking wins everytime... Slow Suicide? Perhaps, but atleast I'm prolonging my life...) When (if?) I can fix my life, I'll quit... I remain optimistic...

I don't mind being around other people that smoke. In fact, I'd much rather be around other cig smokers than pot smokers. Atleast the cig smokers don't turn into total dumbasses... (I've been around PLENTY of pot smokers and this is my experienced view of them...) Don't care for drunks either for the same reason... Just plain stupid! Having fun? Whatever... I don't need a god damn drug to have fun! (I just need one to keep me from taking my own life, but that's what anti-depressants are for, right?) Besides, my doctor told me NOT to quit smoking...

There's a lot of ppl here with strong opinions on different subjects - that's great. But I really don't see what's the problem with smoking, or why some of you seem to look down on ppl who do smoke. People who smoke are not stupid - to say that is just as silly as saying that all black ppl listen to rap music or that all norwegians love skiing.

Personally, I think smoking is a bit silly, and I don't see the point of doing it, not any more than eating candy, but it's not worse either. Still I party-smoke.

As for the health problems - how about eating hamburgers every day, cake for breakfast and only drink milk if there's chocolate or smth in it? Not to mention coke!! Is't that unhealthy? As for dying young; there's a lot of other things you can die from, like car accidents, aids,... bobming - so there's not the greatest chances you'll die from smoking though you're smoking 20 a day. I new a person who had smoked from he was about 15, and died from age when we was nearly 90. My grandma, though, died about 65 years old, from lung cancer, and she never touched a cigarette her whole life.

I have a friend who had bulimi, and smoking helped her not to heed her urge to throw up after eating. Her pshycologist told her that was great, and told her she shouldn't quit, at least not until she had got rid of her desease.

I think it's really shallow to judge smbd because of their smoking. And caughing in ppl's faces are very silly and childish indeed. What kind of behavour is that, anyway? Honestly! Stop caring so much about others, and start caring more about youselves instead!

As for type of cigarettes I smoke - whatever ppl offer me, mostly Barcley, Prince, Marlboro - I don't care to spend money on it myself. But I'd never touch pot or stronger things.

edit: I fell the same about drinking. Myself, I drink much more than I smoke, it's silly, but fun, so whatever! Mostly everyone drink here (and so it is in Sweden and Iceland to). The drinking culture are in short: drink as much as possible and get as drunk as possible in the shortest possible time. But I don't vomit. Don't care too much for that, hehe! As long as you don't use the drunken state as a reason to do dumb/bad things, I think drinking is just fine! (Silly, but fine)

I don't smoke or drink alcohol at all, as I don't see the point in doing any of those things. I never did actually. I think of smoking as disgusting. It smells bad, it's expensive, it makes me cough when I get smoke in my face, and it looks stupid......nuff said.

I smoke weed ocassionally, but I've never touched a cigarette in my life. I guess the biggest and closest scare tactic that's deterred me from smoking was when my dad lost his voice to cancer. I refuse to ever smoke cigarettes. I smoke weed maybe twice a month at the most, so I'm not over-indulgent. I have no qualms with drinking either - although I do it very rarely.

Never smoked a cigarette in my life. I am only now an occasional pot smoker - started heavy in college, downhill since then.

Like others have said previously - I don't understand how you can look at somebody different just because they smoke or drink. It's a pretty blind view to judge people on these things. Yes, smoking cigarettes is unhealthy - as studies have proven. And yes - 2nd hand smoke is bad too. IT's the smokers choice to harm ones own body. But where I come from - it's legal. I'm not stuck up enough to think that all smokers should be condsiderate of me (and I have asthma, so cig smoking does bother em sometimes) just because of the knowledge of 2nd hand smoke. It's their right to smoke - so if I don't like it, I leave.

I quit smoking 2 and a half months ago. I haven't even touched a cigarette since. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done.
I smoked for 8 years. I'm almost to the point where I have no urge to smoke at all. Smoking sucks, period. Don't judge people who smoke prematurely. I'm nothing like the sterotype of the typical smoker. I was one stupid motherfucker for ever starting in the first place. It's extremely hard to quit. I've read it's as hard as quitting cocaine or even heroine! No shit! I've read it on medical information websites. The longer you smoke the harder it is to quit. People, do yourself a big favor and quit! Educate yourself and then do whatever is neccessary to quit. I guarantee you'll be glad you did. Just after 2 and a half months I feel better, both physically and mentally. The elation I feel from the removal of the fear of dying an early death due to the poisoning of my own body by myself is undescribable!

I can't believe there's not more smokers :).

Parliaments. Three to seven a day, up to twenty if I get wasted.

It doesn't start when you try to be "cool" for most people I know. It starts when you start drinking heavily, smoking weed or (especially) doing E, and realise that a cigarette while high is really excellent. Especially on E. Can't get enough, really. Then, eventually, when you're not wrecked, you still want to smoke during the day.

There's no doubt that smoking is fun, despite what anti-smoking crusaders say. Of course, a crack cocaine high is the most amazing thing in the world--does that mean you should smoke it? Certainly not. :)

What a selfish attitude! Tell me - is it their right for someone to give me a terminal disease while i am innocently standing in an elevator? Smoking causes one of the few preventable diseases, not only to yourself, but passively too. So why do it? Yes, I could very well selfishly take up smoking, but believe it or not, I actually DO want my children to grow up with a healthy (and alive) father. Someone said before that they don't care if they die today or tomorrow, but we all know that smoking kills you slowly, and in 20 or 30 years how can you know that no-one will care about you and your death may destroy their life? Or maybe its just that people who are stupid enough to smoke cannot make such friends...

Sorry - I don't know how I came across as selfish. I feel uncomfortable asking others to stop doing something they have a right to do. I can just as easily find somewhere else to go where there isn't smoke. I'm glad they made it illegal to smoke on airplanes, and as laws expand, it will be tougher to smoke in public places.

No matter why one started to smoke - whether they thought it to be cool or whatever, for many, it becomes an addiction. Just tell a druggy to stop, or an alcoholic to stop drinking. People have to come to terms with themselves, and find a way to quit smoking. If people choose to be inconsiderate within the law, then they are just that - inconsiderate. But we all have flaws - this one just happens to be attached to a health risk.

I have probably a greater chance of being killed by a drunk driver then dying by second hand smoke. So lets work on alcohol before cigarettes.

Haha I love Arnold, he's so funny

"IM GOING TO RIP OFF YOUR HEAD AHHHH!!!!!"

The funniest I've seen as of yet was on Collateral Damage when he was sliding down the elevator shaft going "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" Imagine being on the run from ARNOLD, when he was avenging his wife and kid, ARNOLD. And hearing him screaming like that, and his scream getting closer and closer, ahhh

 Arnold is a funny man.. I liked the part where he said "Collateral damage? I'll give you collateral damage!" And started breaking stuff with a baseball bat.. that was good for a laugh

hmm, i think life is short enough "naturally".

By that, i mean: living, doing things that nowadays public opinion says is not harmfull - because, let's be honest, we haven't discovered ALL harmfull things yet and not all harmfull things are publicly known (as satori said in his post about cigarette manufacturers)
Maybe in about 10 years they find out that milk contains toxic substances...ANYWAY

My father died of the results of lung-cancer (evolving -dunno the right english word- into a brain-tumor) last year. He smoked loads of tobacco, for about 30 years, to releave the stress and to remain calm. He worked from 8.30 am to 3 am everyday. (he could not change, neither did he want to)
Both my grandfathers died of cancer, they smoked.

I do not smoke, i don't need to add another factor that could possibly shorten my life to the list.

Another thing, some people said they don't mind that is it legal for smokers to "intoxicate" others that happen to be around their "cloud". Nowadays, it is still publicly accepted it seems, but I won't accept it. Why should i be ok with someone else making the choice to poison me?
