I really recommend learning GoP in full. VERY fun to play. Lots of nice riffs in there. Also, if you got some time on your hands, try TGC. I currently learning it. The solo is hard though..at least for me.

Damn how did I forget?!!? Grr.

I know TGC in full as well.

Wow, I can't believe that some people are being ducks on here. "Yeah, cause y'know, those songs are so hard to play" and whatnot. The guy learned something knew for the first time, congradulate him.

Very nice man, good luck with the rest of it.

Which Opeth songdo you guys reckon is the hardest to play on geetar? I can play all of Benighted, which took me ages to learn considering all the tabs aren't 100% correct.

Ghost Of Perdition is difficult to master. The tabs that I have dont give me the perfect sound i seek.

To tell you the truth, GoP is not hard at all. I mastered it without difficulty.

The only reason it may be difficult is if you're feeling 1337 and want to learn the clean part on a 12 str.:Spin:

You know, the only part that I have trouble with on Deliverance is Peter's clean playing before the song goes into that badass last riff that lasts an hour. It starts at 8:39 and it is way too fast for me! I am playing it all downstrokes when going up and upstrokes when going down, if that makes any sense. It looked like that was what Peter was doing on the Lamentations DVD, but I can't tell for sure because it's too fast and they only show his picking hand during that part for a little bit. I suppose it could also be alternate picked though. I don't know which would be easier. How do you guys play that part?

Deliverance is a wicked song to play, and Peter picks really fast at that part. You can pick it really fast or if you want you could always finger pick it. If you want to play it correctly you have to pick it though. I've learned a lot of Opeth over the years, but my current favourites are the finger picking songs like A fair Judgement, BWP, and Face of Melinda. But definately Deliverance is one of the greatest songs to play because of that awesome bit at the end. If you get both guitars, and drums going on that it sounds wicked =).

BTW, the funnest thing about Deliverance - fuck up with Winamp to strengthen the vocal volume and weaken all the other instruments, and play along on the guitar! Bam! It's just me and Akerfeldt!

Hmm... I wonder; can you tell me how to do the opposite? I'd like to mute the vocals in order for me to practise singing!

Thanks!

I know exactly what you mean. When I was first learning to play Deliverance on bass - that fill (Mendez plays it repeatedly in the Lamentations documentary when Mike is first showing it to him) was giving me some difficulty. A friend of mine snapped a picture of me attempting it and I too appeared as if "mentally handicapped"

Get the power tab, and make sure your guitar is in Dropped D open tuning (DADFAD). Tell you what, here http://ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/o/opeth/ghost_of_perdition_power_tab.htm

That's exactly how I play it. only the intro chords are different:

--------------
--------------
5555-------44
7777-------77
5555-------44
0000 ..pm.. 00......etc etc the rest is exactly the same. and even with those chords it sounds exactly the same.
