he was patrolling 400 yards away from base and was hit through both legs by a sniper.

one of my best friends, and know i dont know if he'll ever walk again. they took him to a hospital in germany, and they dont know when he can come home.

another reason why this war on terror is pointless :erk:

I'm sorry to hear that. Be glad that it wasn't a mortal wound and constantly remind him of that. My friend got his leg amputated after we were attacked and he was injured, but another one of our friends didn't make it. Constantly remind him that he's alive and that's what matters.

its so crazy. my graduating class was only around 50 people. everyone knew everyone. just a rural neighborhood. and this war never really hit home or hit me like this.

i just wish we could get everyone out because i really dont see this ending any time soon.

It won't end for a long, long time.

You'd think over the last 50yrs someone would have learned a lesson, but it's never happened. One can only hope next time they feel like gearing up for war, enough sensible people say "hold the fuck on a minute - it was bullshit last time you convinced us to go over there and die, it was bullshit the time before that and the time before that, so not this time".

It never hit you like this because you grew up in a time when war was a video game. It's not real to today's Americans. It's just something on tv.

People are actually still surprised that people die in Iraq.

Death during war is a sad, sad thing.

That said, the real sad thing - to me anyways - is the hollowness of the death. There is no great cause, it's just bullshit and greed.

sad but true. you're absolutely right...

do you guys deal with a lot of this shit in italy?

I'm American, I just live in Italy. I served a few months in Iraq before I left the military.

The Italians (obviously) have a really strong sense of anti conflict because they know what it's like. This country has been attacked by everyone since the beginning of time. My wife's grandmother can tell you about hiding corn in the cemetary tombs from the Nazis because they were starving them, or when we were attacking them and they had to rush home to protect their family and make sure their house didn't fall on them. War is much different when it's in your own country...we Americans are fortunate to never have to fight someone on our own soil, but then again, maybe we'd have learned a lesson if we had.

my condolences go out to you and your buddy. like the other posters said, and I'm sure he's aware of this, he's incredibly lucky to be alive. I know some guys over in Iraq and other places and I worry about them (and the rest of the guys there as well!)

one of these days we'll learn...I just hope it's not too late by then

Sorry to hear about your friend. My Brother, though long out of the military, still serves in the capacity of civilian instructor. He teaches snipers how to shoot.

A guy he knew several years ago, took a job as an escort. His convoy was hit, he helped helped secure the area then dropped dead. He had no real outward injuries but had sustained internal bleeding and didn't realize it.

I'am really sorry for you and your friend. This war is so bad, and affects so many lives indirectly in many places in the world, for nothing, for pure capitalist greed of a few. And I think the only way to end this war is like in vietnam is to take the streets. Send 20 million people in front of the white house, block highways, and airports through million of protesters. in a few weeks the troops will be home.
I hope your friend gets to walk again somehow through surgery or through any other way!
