So my little girl said something cool while listening to Opeth...

I personally hated music until teenhood simply because all I'd heard up to that point was Top 40 bullshit, and since I figured that comprised 90%+ of the music that existed fell under the pop category. Thankfully, gravely mistaken.

That's me, except I discovered metal when I was 15 or 16.

But heh, if Opeth is the first thing your child hears, he/she won't be scared of harsh vocals! Woah, that sounds like a plan.

my friend has a two year old son and she makes mixed tapes for when they are in the car....one side will be something like Winter or Amebix and the other side will be the Wiggles... :tickled:

...and my 7 year old godson really likes music....all different kinds...he'll rock out to Black Sabbath and the next minute be singing to Outkast....it's rad...

sometimes, if there's an early show they'll bring the kids with them....with ear protection of course...

and neither of the kids has a problem with growls or harsh anything....maybe because their moms were still going to shows when they were pregnant...brutal from the womb! :heh:

My son was born two weeks after Damnation was released so he went to bed listening to it the first month of his exsistence and because of that Death Wispered a Lullaby will always remind me of putting him to sleep at night...His listening tastes are more in the prog rock area and my one year old daughter is more of a power metal fan!

all I got to say is, don't blast too much extreme metal because by the time they're 11 or 12 they're gonna be so sick of it. They'll discover rap or something and think it's the greatest.

I don't have children...I guess. Up to now, no girl called me to say that!

: o )

A few years ago, I was hanging out at my friends house playing some music, and his little 2 year old brother was in the room. We put on some Iced Earth (I think), and his little bro started dancing all over the room. It was hilarious, he was really getting into it!

Well, I don't have stories like that yet... The only "Opeth/children" story would be when my daughter got scared of the acoustic-to-harsh-part of Advent, but she's only a month old so I guess we'll have plenty more to come. Too bad my girlfriend didn't want to name her Melinda. :/

The only metal-mit-kids moment i've had was with Metallica's "one" .. in the thrash part, my mates sister went nuts and, because we'd taught her to do it before, she was doing the devils horns whilst running around the room lol... she now likes Girls Aloud though.. the good times never last :(

Hey, Thats great to hear. You can't put a price on that kind of moment. Some of my proudest moments as a dad revolve around my daughter Ariana (5) in the back seat singing along to Type O Negative word for word, wearing her ACDC t-shirt and actually knowing the difference bet. Brian Johnson and Bon Scott, and she still recalls one night from age three when Martin Powell (COF) and his wife came for dinner at our house...Just last week i was listening to "the Grand Conjuration", Ari said "Daddy that's the song from the video on TV" (headbangers ball)...Makes me misty-eyed just thinkin' about it. The next generation is well on the way! Enjoy! :headbang:

excellent!!!

my sister (seven years older than me) told me that she found me one day when i was around 7 playing records in the attic... i had actually taken some of her records and was playing zeppelin... i said, "why have you been hiding this from me..."
heh.

I watched parts of lamentations with my ten year old bro. he thinks long hair is for girls, that mikael looks like an idiot "kissing the mic," growling sucks, and the only song he liked was ending credits b/c mikael doesn't sing :erk: :erk:
