Soccer Questions

As I said, they probably have a 30 minute show each day, dedicated to the World Cup. That would be the one to catch for in depth analysis and highlights that go beyond goals.

Yeah, there is a 20 minute show each night at midnight. (I just saw it in the listings). That's too late for me, heh. But I do have the Fox Sports channel and they show some very brief highlights, and like I said, fifa.com have cool highlights too (without any commentary).

Haha I tried. I am finding it strange that as such an avid player/fan for most of my life, it's lost all appeal. The only reason I can think of is that I.....

....you played it in the USA?

Perhaps if you had played it in Germany, Brazil, Holland, Ivory Coast, etc then that level of enthusiasm (and increased skill) around you would have made it more inspiring?

yeah, USA, and I loved it while playing. I only lost interest within the past 5 years, during which time, I haven't played at all. I see your point though, perhaps if leagues and pick-up games were more accessible here, I'd still be interested.

It's much cooler than I expected. Also, much more phyical. Since I'm an avid sports fan, I've always enjoyed watching the finals of anything. There's a great appeal to a one and done format.

I've been into it more than usual as well. Definitely rooting for England. :kickass:

Watched it in the past and always had trouble staying interested just because of how bad the U.S. always is. I decided I needed another team to root for this time around to see if my interest would increase in any way. It worked.

i'd really like Argentina to win it all ...

there is no way if it was down to England and Brazil for example ... that England would win ... no freaking way. :loco:

I'm amazed we even made it this far, the way we've been playing...

...that said, a lot of people think your game improves if you play better opponents. The problem is, we've played against shit teams and so it makes us look bad.

Same with pool -- ever played someone crap? It ruins the entire game, no matter how much better you are.

For England, the world cup BEGINS with Portugal on Saturday.

as much as I like Argentina to win ... it will probably be a Germany / Brazil final ... with the cocky Germans going down at home :loco:

I agree though Ali, that Germany has played every game like a precision machine ... but that very machine, will be surprised by some unpredictable Latin team ...

the Germany / Argentina game this Friday ... oh man oh man

Germany v Argentina will be like the final itself (possibly better). Be prepared to see one of the best games of the tournament.

And my money is on Germany. I give them the edge with the homecrowd advantage -- they seem to be thriving off the crowds.

We need more soccer talk around here even with JayKeeley gone.

So tonight my favourite team (the only I care for actually), Saint-Etienne, got a qualifying ticket for next year's UEFA Europe Cup for the first time in 27 years, by beating Monaco 4-0. Needless to say it's the first time I've experienced such euphoric state of mind related to sports - in fact no, it was a rather similar feeling when France won the World Cup.

Gotta buy myself a six pack and get wasted listening to Radiohead!
