That's true. I guess mainstream CD's tend to be a lot more "glossy" in their production, as people in the metal scene complain when a CD is too over-produced.

And yeah, many of the producers themselves tend to be much more talented than the artists they produce... They're doing a lot of the work, and they add stuff to the composition that wouldn't otherwise end up in there.
