At The Mountains Of Madness

If i ever met him, i'd thank him. This guy is a GENIUS! I LOVE his work on Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Damnation. I hope he gets to produce the next Opeth record, to add the last touch of perfection. Not only does he do awesome work on Opeth's albums, but also, his own. He is the reason that i, myself also want to be a producer.
What do you guys think of this genius?

I quote NFU as saying Wilson's a "bottomless pit of ideas." Quoted for tr00f.

Good producer too. I think he put a little bit too much of his influence on the records he did with Opeth, but whatever - prog is good; they're probably going to go in a more progressive direction anyways.

Wilson is not a bottomless talent. It is clear that his ideas, while excellent, willl dry up.

I think he did a very good production job on the Opeth records he handled. I think he expanded Mike's mind much more than Jens Borgen ever could. But... I think Jens did a better production job, now that Steven has completed that expansion.

Steven Wilsons music is great, but possibly not timeless.

That is my opinion.

I love Steven Wilson. Porcupine Tree is one of my all time favorite bands, and it's almost hard to believe that he has impact on my all time favorite band opeth, too good to be true.

his work with the three opeth albums he's produced have been remarkable and i truly hope that opeth uses steven on the next album.

He sure did help a lot in producing the last few albums, but you should realize that Mikael himself is the real genie. There are many things I like more about GR than the last few albums.

i think that Steven Wilson's abilities help make the music more cinematic. But Mike's idea behind the last album was pure fuckin Opeth :p

My favourite from LS has to be Shesmovedon though. The last couple of minutes is awesome. I've been listening to PT a lot lately. don't know why, but I've just been in the mood for their music. Mind you, Deadwing has nothing on the older stuff.

I agree with the fact that Steven Wilson is a great musician. If you look at his side projects with other bands like Opeth, you'll find out he has done a great job. Go and Look at Blackfield album which he did with an Israili guy, absolutely brilliant sound.
I think Ghost Reveries is an absolute disaster comparing to the other albums. I would never put it in the same row with the Still Life album. Well, there are a few good dongs on it but, songs like "Atonement" really did disapoint me, absolute nonsense comparing to the other songs. I'm pretty sure that if Steven Wilson was the producer, the Atonement would have been deleted straight away. I think Opeth has lost its originality for a while now. If you look at the new documentary, all the guys sound a bit big headed now.
Do you agree?
