I second that. Death metal is starting to get stale because few of their bands feel like doing something different, black metal's age of vibrant creativity is naught but a memory, and I don't even really like thrash in general, old or new. Power metal, however, has been evolving since it started, and melodic death metal is offering up an impressive array of bands.

Maybe people do like/respect power metal, but are sick of trendwhore DragonForce fans who haven't even heard Gamma Ray or Helloween.

You must be kidding. It's probably the most stagnant genre, not to mention it has had perhaps the least number of consistent 'masters' of it of any the major genres.

Stop talking about things you clear have no clue about.

I also tire of that, but their lack of knowledge about the genre should not be cause to hate them. Instead, try INTRODUCING THEM to other power metal bands.

Power metal wasn't meant to be a "show your mad guitar skillz" type of genre, it has always focused on making music of an epic, expansive nature, preferring to focus on that instead of technical virtuosity, so you can't blame it for that.

I know plenty about black metal, and in my opinion, the latter day black metal bands don't have the same artistic originality as the early bands like Emperor, Satyricon, Bathory, etc. Yes, I like the newer black metal bands, but they're not all that original. But originality isn't something that I prioritize when choosing bands.
