the Australian Idol thread

Yep, as soon as Hayley picked Yesterday I said she was a gonna.

Marty should do well. Oh Darling would have been perfect for Anthony though.

I think we're gonna see quite a few disappointing performances this week. Not many inspired/out of left field choices, except for Marty, Chanel (seems like EVERYONE picked Across the Universe for her) and Courtney. The others are just songs that one would expect them to choose from.

Ive never heard Across The Universe (at least I dont think I have, perhaps id know it if I heard it...) is that the one she ended up picking? If so, Sprucey, you genius!

I knew someone would pick Yesterday! :headbang: Spawny, you genius!

:headbang: I rock!

Spawn... Its the one that Lennon sings and there are weird lyrics in the chorus like 'Jai Guru dave ommmm. Nothings gonna change my world... Nothings gonna change my world'

I think Fiona Aplpe covered it a few years ago.

Words are flying out like
endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
are drifting thorough my open mind
Possessing and caressing me

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter shades of life
are ringing through my open ears
exciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which
shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Jai guru deva
Jai guru deva

I thought Ricki Lee was great last night, Dicko wouldnt know what was good if it was shoved up his arse. Chanel was pretty good, though she seems to be the Australian Idol ACDC, you get the same thing over and over. Hayley was really great, and the rest were average.

Pretty sucky show all round I thought. Very disapointing. Highlight of the night was probably marcia and dickos blow up.

They had so much to choose from, and basically all of them fucked it. I thought Hayley was close to the best of the night. Courtney was good too, even though he fucked up and went into a second chorus when he should have gone into the second verse. John Foreman covered his ass though.

Casey has got to go. She has the personality of a rock. And not one of the those rocks that turns up to parties in outrageous costumes, smoking hash and chatting up sexually active women. Just the plain old bottom of the river kind of rock.

Everytime a question is asked to her, she shrugs her shoulders and gives a 1 word answer or a grumble. Fuck off fatty!

Thats what you get picking a band that broke up a decade before they were even born as the theme of the show :)

Who gives a fuck. How ignorant do you have to be not to know a Beatles song? Anthony said he was only familar with 1 song from them. What the fuck?

And casey said that she loves the song that she chose, Elanor Rigby and could really connect with the character. She sure proved that didn't she? I wasn't a huge fan of that arrangement either. The original is so nice. Shouldn't have been fucked with. That song only has 2 chords in the whole thing, but the beautiful melody is what makes it so good

Well four of them are ignorant then according to you, and they had an entire week to learn them. People know The Beatles, and can sing you the chorus from most of their hits, thats as far as it goes for 98% of the population under 30.

But they are aspiring musicians, Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think that they should have a fairly good concept of who the Beatles are, and be able to pick ONE song from their entire catalogue that they could learn the lyrics to. A week is a fuckin long time to learn the lyrics of a single song. Just one.

It's like if you were studying to be a historian, and you couldn't answer a question about Nazi Germany because you wern't born in the 30's / 40's. I cannot accept that as an excuse.

Yes, they do have a good concept of who The Beatles are, everyone does, and we can all sing their choruses, but for most people thats as far as it goes.

If you are an historian, learning about the past is all encompassing, now does not matter. However music is completely different, there is music now, but there is no history NOW, and when they are 20 years old, they know music thats happening now. If you see my meaning :)

I do understand your point, but I do not agree with it. You say most people can sing a chorus of a beatles song. I think most non-musicians could memorise a few verses of Beatles songs in an entire week (considering they are already familar with the melody and everything, and already know the chorus). Even if somebody had been living in a weird universe that had every form of music except for the Beatles music.... It wouldnt be hard to memorise the lyrics to She Loves You, Help, Let it Be, Hey Jude or any other of their "simpler" songs.

But these guys are musicians. It is part of what they do to learn songs. I think the ones who said they are not familar with the Beatles music are ignorant.

I guess, but they have a crapload more to do each day than just learn a song, and its easy to forget just one line, and thats all it takes to screw you :)
