the Australian Idol thread

The disappointing thing for me is that no-one has gone and just rocked out. They've all been fairly safe and controlled performances. I'd have like to see Courney, Marty or Casey just go out there and rock.

I was elated to see Courtney go.He had an issue with recieving critism and thought he knew more and better just because he has been doing it for longer than the rest of the idol's. If he couldn't take what the judges say how would he cope with th ctritics reviews out in the world of the media.
I was very happy to see Casey and Anthony get through they were the most deserving of the three left.

Am I alone in thinking that there's no way in hell Casey is worthy of being considered a serious candidate for this? The search for a talented, marketable, consistent recording and live performer with long term prospects has given us this chick. We're looking for the X factor and ended up getting the Why factor!

Given her current state of inexperience, inconsistency as a singer, no personality as a performer, and importantly, her inability to form complete sentences, I don't see it. She's shit-scared for every moment she's on TV, her image is well, bleak, and vocally on her best day she's still on par with any girl you can find singing in your local pub this weekend.

Maybe I'm cynical because I work with better singers than this on a daily basis.

Man, is this a search for the complete package, or a big brother style popularity vote with the prize being a record deal instead of a million bucks? Or is there some "fat chicks unite" lobby group out there rigging the votes? There's got to be an agenda other than letting the cream rise to the top. I bet the record label are shitting their shorts about now with the prospect of Casey being their big new thing.

Where's a shaking head smiley when I need it?

You say you think the record companies would be shitting, but Casey has been the judges favourite for many weeks now, it is obvious.

I don't think she was the best from the competition at all, and I still hope Anthony wins over her, but she is capable of good singing. I also know many people that like her, so she must be doing something right.

Idol has always been about popularity rather than a search for the "complete package". If it was truly about that, there would be no audience participation, and the judges would simply decide.

But Casey has a huge sympathy vote, she has to. She is good, but not that good.
